Default Monterey Historics

Next week we will be heading down to participate in the Monterey Historic races, now called the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. This is the biggest event I have ever participated in and still not sure how we got invited as they had over 900 applicants for 550 spots. Think the car is ready, although we will be adding a lot of weight to it today so we can get through tech. For those of you going down here is a link to the schedule of events:

http://www.mazdaraceway.com/sites/ma...le_6.23.15.pdf

Our group will be interesting as there are 39 cars, including 14 Cobras, 5 Corvettes, 5 Sunbeam Tigers in the field. I don't think I have ever seen 14 "real" Cobras in one place let alone race with them on the rack.

If you are coming down to watch the races make sure you stop by and say high. I will be pitted with Chris Springer who has fully restored Larry Parks old C3 Corvette and will be racing it on Saturday in the IMSA class race.

Here are our two cars:

Is that a Larry Park car or Kenny Yeo? Never mind, answered my own question by actually reading whole post...

Good luck to both of you guys!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it down to the race this year, as we had our 4th Grandson arrive yesterday.

Be sure to tell Chris "hello" for me, and please also tell him the '62 looks frigging incredible!! His restoration of the body work and paint is absolutely perfect!

Wasn't able to say hi because I over did it yesterday in the heat and ended up missing this morning but wanted to say thanks for bringing the car out, stayed until the end today and watched the glorious covettes and cobras and bizzarrini battle this afternoon.

What happened to the Larry Park car on Saturday? Saw you running then I guess you pulled off track somewhere else and you didn't come back out for the afternoon race.

Great weekend overall and by far the highlight of my weekend was having the chance to meet Sir Jackie Stewart.

Best experience I have ever had racing, or maybe at any sporting event I have been a part of. Our car blew a distributor on Friday and Chris had tranny problems in the old Parks car. Chris went home and picked up a new tranny and also a new distributor for us. When ours broke it wiped out some plug wires and damaged a couple connections. We didn't race on Saturday, so we had plenty of time to get the car running. In our two races on Sunday we got faster every time out. Unfortunately for the main race on Sunday afternoon the cars in the two rows behind me all jumped the start. One was passing me just as they were dropping the green flag. We still got faster and got a few of the spots back. Chris got the new tranny in the car for his first race on Saturday morning. Unfortunately he had major engine problems and did not get to run his main race on Saturday afternoon.

They announced that this years race drew a record crowd of over 65,000. Next year BMW is the featured car, and they will have a race celebrating the Can-Am series. This should really bring in the fans, so look for another record crowd. Our ace photographer, Roger "Tuna" Nelson took a ton of pictures. Here are just a few of them:

Nice! Did that black Mustang try to squeeze you in to the wall by start/finish to keep you from passing? I like the way you got by the Tiger on the final corner!

Watched the 1 hour program yesterday that covered what they are calling "Monterey Car Week" I think we might have been in it for a split second, but it is a good 1 hour program that really explains what the entire week in Monterey is about. Here is a little article about the program. I think it is also on this Thursday, besides the dates that are listed in the article.
