Wednesday Night Drags 9-2-15 Sonoma Raceway
OK so who is interested in hitting the drags Wed night Sept 2nd..
Lets get a nice group together to hit the track....
Experience Wed. Night Drags
POPULAR PROGRAM GIVES PEOPLE A SAFE, LEGAL, CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO DRAG RACE THEIR CARS, AWAY FROM CITY STREETS
WHAT
The popular Wednesday Night Drags program will kick off its 27th consecutive year at Sonoma Raceway on March 18, 2015. The raceway will open its gates most every Wednesday night from March 18 -Nov. 18 for fans who would like to race down the world-famous quarter-mile drag strip.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the program is to give people, from teenagers to working professionals, a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to race their vehicles, as opposed to using city streets or back-county roads.
WHEN
Most Wednesday nights through Nov. 18th. Gates open at 3:30 p.m., racing spans from 4 p.m.-10 p.m.
WHERE
Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif., 95476.
WHO
Anyone with a driver's license can compete, providing their vehicle or motorcycle passes a simple technical inspection. All vehicles must have mufflers. To see the rules and regulations for Wednesday Night Drags, please click here. The event attracts a varied crowd, including teen-agers, mothers, working professionals and grandparents racing everything from Corvettes to Mini-Vans. Three-hundred cars are allowed to compete each Wednesday night. The weekly event attracts an average of 900-1,200 people (competitors and spectators).
TOP THE COPSTM
An added bonus to the Wednesday Night Drags is the Top the CopsTM program, which enters its 21st season in 2015.
Top the Cops allows high school students the rare chance to drag race against Bay Area law enforcement officers on the quarter-mile drag strip. Both are given practice runs, leading up to a final-round showdown between the student and an officer who competes in his/her squad car and in full uniform. The Top the Cops program runs from April 1 through August 5.
Participating law enforcement agencies include:
•California Highway Patrol
•Fairfield Police Department
•Fremont Police Department
•Napa Police Department
•Novato Police Department
•Sonoma County Sheriff's Department
•Sonoma Police Department
•Windsor Police Department
COST
$25 competitors, $15 for students with their high school identification card, $10 spectators

I'd love to go that week but I'll be in Cancun having a different kind of fun. I'll probably go on 9/9 though with a few non vette friends. Have fun and post results!

I'd love to join you guys but I have an 850whp C6 with a 6 speed that should trap in the 140s and hopefully run at least in the 10s, I typically just run Nt05r drag radials on the street but got a set of hoosier drag radials that came with the car i could use too.
problem is my car is basically stock meaning it has no roll cage or flywheel scatter shield or axle loops etc as it's just my fun street car. I don't want to put a cage in it at all and I don't drag race (raced everything else with wheels and a motor but not much at the 1/4) so not super interested in adding all this other stuff either.
I'm assuming they'd just kick me out after one or two runs? always been curious where do people with these high hp street cars go and run without issues?

looks like I can't run
unless I'm missing something it says anyone faster than 11.49 and >130mph requires a roll bar and permanently attached window net and master electrical shut off and flywheel shield, NHRA chassis classification, etc
i understand safety but I think this is a bit excessive. there are lots of bone stock cars these days that run these kind of numbers nobody would ever put this safety stuff on

interesting, I hadn't caught that. I looked up the rules though and says that only applies to "unaltered" cars?

not sure if they enforce that unaltered part or not, would love to go run a time or two a year and I doubt I'll be

thanks for the tips.
I'm pretty sure I'll run >130mph, if infineon is enforcing this rule strictly I think I'll pass but thanks for the invite. too bad the rules are so strict.

Since you're not sure what it'll hit, you can just start out at 70-80% throttle as a measuring stick. You'll probably get about 5+/- runs in so just save 100% for the last run.
You won't know til you go, and it'll be another notch under your belt experience wise. The time slip would be pretty cool to have as a keepsake too. I'm very new to the sports car world and the different events that it has to offer. Here's what I've learned so far, I'm having more fun experiencing it vs researching and talking about it.

My suggestion to you faster cars is too run all out to 1000' and lift, that way you can see were you are legal wise and back into it, I believe some will be humbled by lack of traction. Unless you are running drag radials and know how to launch your car you will have issues. My stock '98 that runs mid-13's is tough to launch with street tires, I will be leaving the traction control on so will slow it down even more. Also anyone coming out make sure you bring a helmet as I am sure every C5 & C6 vette will easily be in the 13.99 and quicker (helmet needed) category.
George, would love to bring the Challenger out but with mufflers (which I usually don't run) I will still break the 115 decibel limit unless I am very careful on my burnout and that kinda takes the fun out of it and will be asked to park it, occasionally they look the other way but hate to push it.
Will be out with it on Labor day though!
BTW, if there are 16 plus cars and the group wants I can talk to Georgia and get us Corvette only lanes.

thanks guys, let me see what work is like and get back to you.
I've been to the drags before with 500+hp but its been years and i never went much but I've raced everything from autox roll caged porsche to shifter karts, considering the 600whp C6 z06 run 138-140mph in the 1/4 with my >850whp and more weight i'd think 140mph+ shouldn't be too tough even with my inexperience but I guess don't know until try....
if we get enough vettes together perhaps we could all rent a track some evening and not have to abide by their strict rules? I'd think if we did that we could get tons of cars to come out, I know i could bring at least 5 including myself
