Default C5 hvac backlight fix

Anyone know any local place to get the backlight on the hvac controls fixed? I was thinking of sending it off but if there is a local place I'd rather do that. Also thought about doing it myself but I'm not very handy with a soldering iron. I'm in Sacramento. Thanks guys.

It's actually pretty easy to do. I did mine on my kitchen table with a soldering iron I bought from Home Depot. I used this well written article as a guide:

Thanks for the link and encouragement bud. I may give it a try when I pull the unit during my steering wheel install.

Sent mine to this guy, very quick turn (back in a week). Went with white LED's and couldn't be happier with the product/service.

Yep, did mine as well. Took longer to take the unit out than to actually perform the fix.

yep, I just ordered the LED lights from a guy on ebay, will be pulling the unit when i have my radio/console out. should only be about a 30 minute fix at the most, not counting the console reinstall.

So, I decided to send it to a vendor on ebay. For a little under $60 including shipping they got it back to me in 6 days. All of my backlighting is working now. I couldn't be more happy with it. Anyone on the fence about this, its a definitely worthwhile fix.

What vendor did you pay $60 with? The guy from two posts up wants $110.

I sent it to asapspeedo in Mesa, Arizona. Here's the eBay item #291586511075. I don't know how to paste a link. Sorry. It was $45 plus the $13 for shipping it to him by priority mail. The $110 item in the post above is for the fix with LED upgrade. That seller also has the "regular" fix for $45. Just look at sellers other items. Hope that helps.
