Living in San Francisco with a C7
My apologies if this has been posted or asked before, but I searched and couldn't find a direct answer. I have a 2014 C7 - and am relocating to San Francisco - area like Bernal Heights or Glen Park.
My question is are there any members here in the city itself, and is driving it on weekends across the Bay Bridge, to Berkeley, Napa, Sonoma, etc do-able? Will I be scraping the heck out of my front end coming and going from the city?
Just want to make sure I am not moving out there with a car that is completely impractical (as a 2nd driver, not a daily driver).
Thanks for your help and advice.

My son lives in SF and I visit frequently. Many of the streets are under construction but I've never had a problem driving thru the City. Parking is another story though. I always park inside a parking facility, never on the street.

Sorry I can't give you a opinion on living in S.F. BUT the weekend or one dayer cruised have endless possibilities from up/down HWY 1 Pacific ocean to a 3-4 hr drive up to Lake Tahoe/ Reno/ go south east to Yosemite. You get IT ALL HERE in the Bay Area!!!

i haven't had a problem the few times i've been to the city.
we just relocated recently and the local "cruising" is great. even though i daily drive mine, i still cant wait til the weekend to take an extended roadtrip to nowhere.

There are some very step streets in SF. Hitting the intersections of some of these hills can cause some scraping, especially if going to fast.
In general just use caution, these cars do sit low. Although your C7 has more clearance than my C6.

Make sure you have a front plate on the car. SF is notorious for writing front plate tickets. Frankly its a lousy place to have a nice car. Its mostly parking by braille on the street and garage parking is seriously expensive.

I do drive to SF every once in a while and the streets are fine. I am more worried about the drivers and parking. People in the city don't seem to really car about nice cars.

I live in San Francisco and I daily drive my 2012 Grand Sport. Mostly commute over the golden gate bridge. The streets are pretty bad right now. For some reason in the Richmond district they are ripping up alot of the streets. The front end scrapes occasionally on the front air damn splitter but besides that it's alright (even on the freeways in certain dips). I would worry about other drivers as well and pedestrians and parking. People cannot drive in the city hense the dash cam that I had installed. Pedestrians walk whenever they want as far as crossing the street and people cannot park at all. They do bumper cars while coming out and door dings like crazy (luckily none on the vette yet) I had one guy hit car with his door when I was going through the trunk. Luckily no ding. But really come on right in front of me! San Francisco is strick as far as no front plate but every no front plate ticket I have gotten I have been parked. SFPD doesn't really care and a couple of my friends that are SFPD said they wouldn't waste their time with that. Meter maids give the no front plate tickets.
That's the best idea of driving a vette in San Francisco

I manage to damage my vette in one way or another every single time I go to SF. Nowhere else, just SF. What a huge, ridiculous clusterfvck. Totally worth it though LOL

Sadly, I left my c5 Z06 at my parents house in SoCal when I moved up to San Francisco (in May of this year).
Even though it's obviously a really crap city for sport car ownership, I've seen quite a few nice sports cars in the SOMA/Financial district area.
I'm most likely going to move mine up once I sell my other car (parking garage's are expensive ya know).
It's a bad idea IMO, but I'm a car guy at heart...

I'm generally impressed by the transitions at the tops and bottoms of hills in SF. They tend to be gentler than they look.
Runoff is mainly handled by storm sewers so there usually isn't a deep gutter curbside or across intersections.
I can get in and out of the city in my C6 without scraping at all.

I was born in SF and raised there until leaving for College. I now live in the Bay Area and visit often to see my mom. Owning a car in SF and not have a garage space is not advised. Parking is a pain in the streets and the garages are tight. Single family homes have tight entrance garage. My parents house single car width garage door holding 5 cars.
If your planning to park near tourist spots like Lombard Street, you should read about car break at tourist areas.

The streets are fine with regards to worries about scraping. You should always be advised when parking 45/90 degrees to not wait for your tire to hit the stop. That will destroy any chin spoilers.
If want to enjoy your car, trips to Napa, Highway 1 North of SF are always fun if your not the passenger for day trips.
If you make it here before end of July, take a trip to Reno (3-4 hrs drive) for Hot August Nights. You wont be disappointed with the show and the scenic drive from Sacramento to Reno.

I live across the bay and come into SF occasionally. Unless passing through (drive down Highway 1) I really don't enjoy driving and parking the Z in the city. Hate worrying about other cars tapping it while parked (or when I'm driving.) An SUV is more appropriate for the city.

The streets of SF will rattle your filings out and you will need an alignment in no time. It's a collision just waiting to happen.
The streets are full of pot holes and bumps. It's SCRAPE CITY GALORE. Your insurance rate will double. Watch out whenever you go over hills and driveways with factory set up. I would not park it outside. Even if you can find parking.
Watch out for the clueless crazy drivers.

Same as any city..... parking issues (bumper damage, dings, vandalism), road construction, road condition, driveways, speed bumps. Disposable car is recommended for daily driving and errands.
Scraping...same as any city, noting many SF residence garages are tiny. Lambo doors for the win here.
Hills...could be a burdensome with a clutch plus special techniques for parking spots on hills needs to be learned.
Front plate... good point mentioned above.
Bridge travel... no issues, except the volume of traffic.
Many good roads out of town... SSF Skyline Blvd, Berkley Hills, Marin Highway 1, Sonoma Barressa Lake as examples.
Born and raised here.
Good luck.

Be aware - the city in their infinite wisdom greatly reduced the penalty for auto burglary. Of course, the obvious happened - busted windows and stolen contents is now at epidemic numbers.

If you cant find an apartment building with secure parking I would find a 20'x10' storage locker to put the car in and ride Uber around town.It sucks taking 1/2 hour looking for a place to park then having to pay $15-30 to park.
