Sonoma Raceway or Thunder Hill Track Days?
Hello All,
Looking to do a track day, but I am having trouble finding any upcoming events.
If someone could provide some info on upcoming track days at Sonoma or Thunderhill, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Depending on what you're looking for, Hooked on Driving has a bunch of events throughout the year.

you can go on the website for the track and look at calendar of events to see who has the track rented for that day.then you can look up that group to get info on it.
or you can look at the website for a certain group and see what days they have at the different tracks.
hooked on driving is the most expensive but imo are the best to run with.well ran and not alot of cars per run group.trackmasters is another good groups.ncrc is probably the cheapest but they usually have lots of cars per group.
also google search for norcal trackdays/hpde groups to find more.

Love running Norcal Racing Club at Thunderhill.....track is so big that traffic is rarely an issue. They have about 10 events scheduled for TH this year.

I'm looking for other outfits besides HOD because after running 5 mile a few times, I really just can't see going back to the 3 mile config ever again... the full track is so good.
This of course creates a problem because there are a smaller number of events per year with a given organizer that runs the 5 mile... sooo... find more organizers

BOTH!!! Honestly, if you're a beginner, go to Thunder Hill first. Incredible track but far more forgiving of inevitable mistakes than Sonoma. Acquire some skill and confidence, then head to Sonoma ... it's an unbelievable track. Then there's Laguna Seca . . . You're looking at a slippery slope, my friend!
Whatever you decide, get some coaching early. Like any sport, bad habits come easily and early and can be hard to break.
I'll be at Thunder Hill this weekend myself with HOD.

They only do the 3 mile config? Kinda sad

Having said that, a beginner should stick to the 3 mile track until he has some seat time. A lot of beginners (and even experienced drivers) have a hard time remembering all the corners/apex on the 5 mile layout.

The five mile course is more expensive to rent and doesn't pan out for a lot of organizations doing track days. But, it is by far the best track configuration on the west coast....better than LS, Sears, anything IMO.

is there another group besides HOD that does the 5 mile? I honestly only run with HOD because of that. otherwise i don't see the value of paying 60 or so bucks more than say speedsf or ongrid.

Yamaha (sport bikes only? private? manufacturer?)
Lotus Club (http://www.gglotus.org/trkdays/ggtrkday.htm, they look open to all cars)
Droids and Friends (invite only)
Open Test on May 19th
24 hour of lemons (AVOID! haha)
Zoom Zoom (looks like sports bikes only)

Lotus club is open to all cars. I ran with them once at Laguna Seca. Also inexpensive.
