My thoughts? You'll really like the Sl 500. What year are you looking at?

For most people, this would be a good move. Most Corvette owners are waxers, and the Merc is clearly a better waxxer car. They offer more factory floormat support, too. Those AMG mats are PIMP.

Now for those of us that have seen a racetrack... Well, I'd keep the Corvette....

My dad drives a SL500. He loves it. Comparing it to a Vette is apples to oranges IMO.

Just depends, you want a sports car or a luxury touring car?

SL's are great, but at 4,000lbs" don't expect it to perform like a Vette. With 6 on board computers at $1200 each they are extremely costly cars to repair should something break.

That said, I'd rather a SL550 over a Vette vert.

Couldnt have said it any better myself - If you're a cruiser who doesnt need to go faster than 155 , you'll LOVE the Merc .

It pulls pretty hard too , for a 4200 lb pig .

Go for it .

If you are looking at these two cars and you pick a vette over a SL 550 you need your head checked. The MB will surely show the cheapness of the vette.

Sorry guys but this is an unfair comparison.

Well I must confess....

I recently sold my 2003 50th AE Corvette.

And purchased a 2007 MB SL55 AMG.

It's a whole different animal from a Corvette so don't try to compare apples vs. oranges.

I strongly suggest you go for the upgraded AMG model... much more performance that you are use to from driving a Corvette.

I did a lot of research and found that the last major changes in the SLs came in 2007 and the value drops a lot in the first two years... so any one you purchase from 2007+ will be about the same car.... save yourself some cash and consider Certified Pre-owned MB with a few miles... you still get the 100K warranty.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

A real baller would keep the Vette and just buy the MB.

Just be sure you can afford maintenence on the Mercedes and then get it. They are beautiful cars.

The 2007 SL is 4200lbs like others said... 1000lbs more than the vette. With slightly less power... so it is a much slower car...

But it has a far superior interior, it rides, better, has a 7 speed auto!!

I was heavily considering an SL500 since they are under 30k and look the same as SL550... but that newer SL550 motor is FAR better so I am waiting for that.

You would have had to add a good chunk of change in on that going from Vette to SL ....

2007 AMG SL run around 70-85k.

I own an SL55 AMG it is a great car. I have always owned corvette's and still do but the suspension on the SL is great. The interior is better than the vette but you are also talking about 130.000 dollar car so it should be better in quality. My advise is buy an factory extended warranty any repair on these cars is big bucks especially their hydraulics.

Amen NCC-1701 and glad to see that Vettes and SLs can get along so well. Extended warranty is a must.

I went with the Black on black.... very sharp.... and the butt coolers keep those black leather seats cool on these hot days with the top down.
