Default How much do college football referees make?

Is being a NCAA football referee a full time job? How much do they make per year? Who pays for travel?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Pretty sure college and NFL refs are not full-time.

I don't know what the pay is. I wouldn't be surprised if it differs by conference.

Only answer I can find is:

Quote:
In D 1 the lowest paid conference officials make about 800.00 per game, the SEC is the highest paid with the officials making about 1600.00 per game
Not sure how recent or how accurate it is.

I have a friend that's in the pros now. He did college football upto about 10 years ago. He was making about $2500 a game. Flew in on Friday and met with the crew ( all were professionals with other hi end jobs) did the game on saturday, and flew home on sunday. NCAA paid for everything from flight to food to hotel. Its very selective. They have recruits that come out and watch you just like they do with players to pull you up to the next level.

He loved it. Now he's doing pro games and still enjoys it. He retired from his other full time job, and now just refs Pro football. I catch him on TV everyonce in a while and make fun of him.

He makes alot more in the pros, but its never discussed. I was very impressed by his college crew. Judges, Mayors, Lawyers, Teachers.

Not sure about Football but I doubt they are full time.
Gene Steratore went to school with me. He works NCAA basketball along with NFL football
He lives well but also owns a sanitary supply company that is a full time job.
So I would guess between the NCAA and NFL he brings in about $75k from what I could gather.
NCAA stays mid-atlantic NFL goes any place.
