Default Direct TV - HR24 adding external hd?

Anyone upgrade their DVR HD space? I was told from a friend that all you have to do is get an esata external drive and plug it in? Can't be that easy right?

Ive never came close to filling mine and I record stuff all the time. I doubt it would be that easy however.

I know on the HR20 if you add an external HD (yes, all you have to do is get an external SATA drive and plug it in) it replaces your internal HD. It does not extend the space. Any recordings you have on the internal drive are unaccessible.

I presume the same holds true for the HR24.

I prefer to just have a couple of HR2Xs networked and use MRV.

That's still pretty good. I' heard the limit for the hr24 was 2tb

I don't even come close to touching my limit across an HR20 and HR22...Rarely came close when I wasn't doing MRV. Now I just split my recordings across two DVRs and can watch anything from either room.
