Default How do I make a LED lit glass shelf?

Any idea how I accomplish the below task of lighting a glass shelf as shown below. What is involved and where do I get the material as well as costs. I don't know much about LED lighting so keep in mind I'm a newbie. In other words is there a transformer, can it be dimmed etc? I don't want to purchase the whole unit, I want to light glass shelves recessed in a wall I presently have.

Parts abound! Most of these edge lit glass or plastic panes done with light emitting diodes, the diodes are in series and are fed direct current. Each diode requires about 2.4 volts and 20 milliamps of current for full brilliance. You reduce the applied voltage and thus the current to dim them. LED's can be bought from a lot of sources, Digi-Key, Mouser, and if you use google you will find a lot of electronics parts places that sell LED's and d.c. power supplies and variable resistors. Your power supply should be rated higher in voltage than 2.4 x the number of LED's you intend to light and it should be capable of 20 milliamps of current.

Here's a step-by-step.
The site also sells the necessary parts.

I have seen very sophisticated industrial versions of this. The edge lighting acts as a light pipe. There many applications, for instance tail lights, making them smaller and lighter resulting in increased trunk space.

Search for LED striplights.

Thanks for all the replies, it's given me a lot to read and research. Looks like it's doable.
