Why does my Windstream DSL suck SOOOO bad?

Default Why does my Windstream DSL suck SOOOO bad?

UPDATE!!! POST 37!!!

Update, post 18.

Who knows about this stuff? My DSL is off more than it is on. Other times it is so slow. A youtube video takes more than twice its' time to play, have to watch that little wheel spin more than the vid. Windstream tech says it's my modem. Well, I have 4 modems, 1 2wire, 2 SS 4200s and a SS5200. All the same. Taking out the router makes no difference. I actually have 2 accounts a couple miles apart and they are both doing this. Seems the worst at the time of day more people are online. Been this way for quite some time. I actually rewired one of the locations, nada. If it is something I am doing wrong I will fix it. If not, I am ready to go to the Utilities Commission.
I can't get cable.

DSL here, too.

Down: 1.38Mbps
Up: 1.48Mbps

I'm VPNd into work right now and not sure if that slows things down.

I feel your pain. Windstream bought out the local phone company in my town a few years ago, they're total crap. I promptly switched to cable and never looked back.

Except my job is in IT and I get to support clients with Windstream all the time.

Windstream is total crap. Unreliable, slow as molassas, down every day, total crap. If you have any other option, get it.

Its the DSLs technology that relies on 50 year old copper in the streets - that is the problem.

It seems OK to me. Download should be faster than upload, I believe.
My High speed cable is listed at 5mbs, but I never attain it.
TWC lists it at 5 times faster than DSL, 2.5 times faster than normal Cable (A dig at Charter Cable, their competitor around here).
It's all a crock.
I do know that I am running 3 pcs on my home network. One is constantly running XBOX live with VOIP, and there's no interruptions.
MY daughter's Hughesnet satellite crap won't run the XBOX live stuff at all. Neither would the Direct-TV.

Then again, I might have my mbs gbs and all the other acronyms hosed up.

It might be time to switch companies. Charter Cable, 12 meg plan, ~$40 monthly.

I'm on Windstream here in BFE Arkansas and I don't have much trouble. 6M down/.5M up. I wish the upload speed was higher so VPNing to work would be better. Streaming video (hulu, netflix) is fine.

I've had a few issues with their support techs over the years but they usually get it fixed if you mess with them long enough and do some basic troubleshooting first. I always have to remove my router and plug one PC directly into the modem before they'll even listen to me.

The only time I really got mad is when they were blaming the in-house wiring and I had to drag my modem and laptop outside to plug directly into the box on the house. They still blamed me for it but somehow the problem miraculously vanished 2 days later.

When I bought my new house, I made sure it didn't have windstream. Check with your local EMC, I got 15m fiber from ours for 29.00 a month.
