HK is a great firearm but IMO they are just too much money compared to what others in the same market can do for half the price.

no Taurus and no ruger (nothing really wrong with either but if $1,000 was my budget, id dream bigger)

1911's i would highly recommend would be the STI Trojan over all the rest at 1k, Second would be a Springfield Range Officer. Those 2 are phenomenal values for sub 1k. Then after that there are quite a few very good ones around 700-800 bucks being the Ruger 1911 (all American), Springfield Loaded model, S&W E-Series, and the Colt Gold Cup and the Colt Rail Gun being a few examples.

Polymer guns i highly recommend the FN-FNX, S&W M&P, Glocks (especially the 19 which i feel is their best all around model), Springfield XDm, and a great CCW polymer is the Walther PPS

Metal non 1911's- One of if not the best is the SIG P220... it truly is an amazing and dependable firearm. CZ makes a few great ones too, the CZ-75 is a fantastic firearm too. the High Power is a classic and you also can't go wrong with the SIG P229 as well as the SIG P226.

Ive own just about every one i listed except the Range Officer and S&W E-Series 1911... shot them many times but don't own them yet... one day.

Oh it's easier than that. Just mention that the Hi Power was Browning's best design.

Just picked up this Sig Ultra 1911 for under your goal and it comes with night sights. I've put close to 500 rounds through it in little over a month. Not one problem with it.

Don't forget to add that 1911s are bronze-age tech. Nothing pisses off gun peeps more.

I just purchased on of those last week!
I'm thinking the OP can get a better gun for his limit of $1000, the Beretta is about half that

Are the colt 1911 government models different than the others?

Just didn't know if they were illegal or of worse quality than one that wasn't.

1911s are all the same in basic design. fit and finish and in later years changes to firing pin safeties are the biggest differences.

Default 1911s

The one on top in the picture is the Colt 1911 that my dad carried in WWII. I bought the Sig 1911-22 pictured on the bottom for plinking and 4 legged varmints.

I am sure that your Dad, who fought Germans in WW2, would be very happy that you own a German made .22LR.

You have no respect for him or his comrades on the front lines of battle?
