So, I bought one of those cameras on the way home and drilled through the drywall.

The drill bit hit something past the drywall, so I stopped. I shoved the borescope in, and it looked like... stucco?

So I went outside... Sure enough, the master bedroom is inset compared to the spare bedroom.

There is no unused 3x3 space.

what a dumbass

Perhaps when the house was framed, the plans called for an air handler at that location but during completion of the house, a combo (like those used to cool mobile homes) unit was installed outside the house and the sheet rockers just covered up the space.

My original house plans called for two air handlers on the main floor but after framing I decided to go with a five ton four zone system rather than two smaller units. I ended up with an unused air handler space so since I was the contractor I just made the space into a small closet that opens into my study and I store office supplies in it.

Maybe the OP can call Geraldo (sp?) and see if he wants to open it like he did Al Capone's secret room many years ago on TV.

OPPS! I missed the OP's post about buying and using the camera.
