Default Acura Brake Dust Woes

There have been numerous threads elsewhere on the Forum about the amount of brake dust the OEM brakes for the C5 produce...and, granted, it does seem to be a lot. I have a new contender for that honor, however.

We bought an Acura TL Type S in January. For those of you that may not be familiar with this vehicle, it's essentially an Acura TL with the 3.5 liter V-6 from the RL. Acura has upgraded the brakes with Brembo units and fitted them with pads that are unbelievably dusty. I've never seen so much dust produced in such a short time. My wife uses the vehicle to drive back and forth to work (about 20 miles/day) and within 2 days the wheels are covered in brake dust.

I will never complain about the C5 brakes again...

Break dust aside, how do you like the car? Lookin' at that or a G35X. Was in both at a local car show and the TL-S felt a little dated compared to the G.

That's true...the Acura design is getting a little long in the tooth, even though it's still a nice-looking car. We also looked at the G35 (which, secretly, is the one I would have chosen) but my wife liked the Acura and ya gotta please "The Boss". I only have two (minor) complaints about it: 1) it has less horsepower than the Infiniti (286 vs. 306) and 2) it's front-wheel drive, and has annoying torque-steer when you get on it.

Other than that, I really like the car...I respect the engineering behind it, and the fit and finish is beyond reproach.

Well, my porsche brakes are just as dusty as my corvette brakes. Dust is something one have to live with if one wants the best braking performance.

A ceramic replacement pad will deliver much less dust and if you are not auto Xing the car you shouldnt notice any performance loss.
