Challenger SRT-8 392 Dodge Challenger
With the current price of super unleaded at 4.22 per gal. and going up how will this affect the sales of the Challenger Line from SXT, RT and SRT?
Does SRT stand for Street Race Technology?
R/T for Road and Track?
SXT???

I've owned 3 SRT vehicles so let me give you my first hand account of the situation.
Back a few years ago when the gas prices spiked the SRT8 vehicles didn't budge one bit in resale value. I know this for a fact because between my 2nd and 3rd SRT I was in the market and licking my chops at a really good deal...
...It didn't exist. They held their value very well.
I can only expect the same during the next fuel spike, especially since most people will assume it will go back down again like it did a couple years ago.

All of the knee jerk reation people have ditched their gas guzzlers.... the people who still own them realize fuel prices are high and likely going to get higher and it obviously isnt making them run out and trade in/sell them.

What's going to affect the price the most is whether you buy this bad boy in the spring market vs. winter market (just like it affects a vette, which is not seen as an all season vehicle like the Chally SRT8).

I think the only thing that'll affect sales, is when people say "Wait, what exactly am I paying all this money for? Oh thats right, basically the only car made still with an iron block..."

Believe it or not, many people who buy these gas guzzlers are not ultra-rich at all. They'd rather have a muscle car (that gets 13 MPG) than put the extra money into their house or yard. I know a few people who aren't as extreme but will spend $2000 on a Mac book, iPad, and iphone, yet rent an apartment or house - go figure.

I hear you Dave..... as mentioned above different people have different priorities. I have a gas guzzler, I am in no way ultra rich, I need a heavy duty vehicle for towing and hauling things around, also I want to know when we get nasty weather here I have no worries. Lucky for us we dont put many miles on our vehicles (especially that one), my wife takes the train into Chicago (we live one block from the station) so basically Im the only one driving 90% of the time and I cant drive 3 cars at once. So getting 10-12mpg's with that truck for the little amount we drive it hardly shows up at the end of the year in terms of total fuel consumption.
One of my brother's friends (this is going back 5-6 years ago) who was around 30 at the time and living with his parents went out and bought a CLS 55 Benz brand new. That car back then I believe stickered for for nearly $90K. If you ask me that is having your priorities completely out of whack. I can just see him out picking up a girl in his $90K Benz and bringing her back to mom and dad's.....hahaha!!!
I would have liked to pick up a newer Z06 this past year but instead I purchased 2 more properties (one for my pricipal residence and one for investment.... this also added another investment property which was my previous residence which I hung onto vs. selling since the rental market is fantastic in my area). In certain areas I don't see renting as having your priorities messed up..... for instance areas like Las Vegas, South Florida probably have further to fall value wise so I can see why some people may still be on the fence. In my area things have leveled off pretty good, inventory is decreasing and absorption rates are rising so if your in the position your just about crazy not to be buying especially at today's rates. I do have to laugh at some people I know that choose to dump money into their cars or have so much debt (for discresionary items) they cant qualify to purchase a home......mind you these are people with good jobs that just choose to blow their money... that in my opinion is having your priorities out of whack.

Well maybe, but I take the train to work so my drive is only 10 minutes per day.
My neighbor drives 100 miles round trip to work and owns both a Charger and Prius. You can guess which one he drives to work. I'd save maybe $50 a month by driving a Honda or something? Big deal.
BTW, my mortgage will be gone before I'm 40 and my yard looks great.

I think if I lived in Illinois, I'd have had my mortgage paid off when I was 35!
Seriously, my commute to work is just 10 minutes but housing and college tuition for the "kids" pulls away any car upgrade purchases for the time being. Still, I think my days of 13-16 MPG cars are gone, regardless of how close I am to work.

The rest of the time, having kids is not very expensive.
Well that certainly depends on where you plan on living in Illinois
