Hate to admit but....New GT-R with 600 hp coming....
Hate to say it but don't think the new Z will bring enough.... Nissan announced the new Nismo version GT-R coming this winter, estimated at about $150 K (Canada $$$ though) so probably $120-$130 u.s. Will be a solid 600 hp/481 torque AWD monster..........and we already know the 545 hp version does low, low 11's stock. Nissan also went in print saying it will break the new Nurburgring record. Damn!

Actions speak louder than words.....
But still, looking to see this new beast to come.

Even if it is faster than the Z07 at the ring, which I doubt, it is so butt fricken' ugly. With so many folks complaining about the C7 tail lights, it is "mind boggling" to me that anyone would consider that Nissan even remotely attractive. Ferraris, Lambos, even the stogy 911 would be an aesthetically appealing alternative but, the GT-R?

That in no way reflects my preference between my cars though.

Geez...There's more threads about this ugly car than corvettes?!? I mean I get it, the car is fast but its a different class of car IMO.

Of course the Nissan will be faster in straight line competition. Two year old GT-R's are faster with 0-60 times at 3 secs (R&T April 2013) & qtr 11.2. Even weighing 300lbs more! And if the buyer is after raw speed then the GT-R is it. However, the breaking and cornering ability of the old zo6 and zr1 is superior to the old GT-R and I would expect the new ZO-6 to be even more so. As long as the vette has the power to push it thru the turns and break at the last moment then the track will be won by the new vette not to mention the Viper.
I agree with the writer whose position it is to look at the total experience and know that with the American car you are getting a holistic approach to a sports car...beautiful affordable styling, great mechanical engineering and kick-*** drivability surrounded by all the goodies! Lord, what more could one ask for under ?????$. (even with the occasional op)
Until GM comes out with an awd vette or find some way to employ the hp we have to settle for 2nd class status in the one area...rrm

There's always going to be a guy whose **** is bigger than yours. You should have figured this out a long time ago.
No matter how much HP your car has, You're never going to have the biggest rooster.
Owning a corvette isn't just about HP. Owning a Corvette is about owning a piece of Americana; a piece of American history. Driving that corvette tells everyone that you have cut off your own piece of the American dream. I remember when a friends dad bought a midnight blue 64 corvette convertible and I thought that was the coolest car I had ever seen. I swore that day I would own one myself.
The Corvette represents everything that is good and pure in the American spirit, a world-class sports car that costs a fraction of the price of the elite Euro trash, and can compete with any one them and still be affordable for a mass audience of hard working folks. An American tradition that goes back to Henry Ford.
Go buy the Nissan, or whatever car announces it's HP is now higher, but I promise you, that **** of yours is as big as it's going to get.

Seriously?? Gimme a phukkin break.
Calling Europe's finest cars trash just makes you sound like a complete idiot.
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, Pagani are hardly trash. Way better than American cars, and I drive a freaking C7.
"That **** is as big as it's going to get"
Yup, exactly what you have to tell the ladies in your life. "Sorry, that's as big as my **** gets"
Why did you start talking about ***** anyways?
Get a life.

With all due respect where have you been hiding? Was at the Chicago Autoshow this year and well known to be coming. Already set a lap at 7:08 Nurburgring. The new C7 would have to cut about 14 seconds if I recall to match the Nismo.
New R36 GTR is around the corner, very likely with hybrid/Kers/twin turbo set up. As I recall they are working with F1 Williams for the new one. Likely around 750-800 HP.
Here we go with another GTR thread which will end in the following. The GTR is fugly, heavy, overpriced, and rough riding, and the Vette is the best bang for the dollar even if it is slower.
End of thread. We have been over this many times before.

650 torque is good but it better have some way of reigning in all that power or it's useless. I can't wait for the Z to come out and read the performance figures but I don't know if the extra torque, bhp and less weight will be able to help it in a straight line vs the AWD Datsun.......although I sure as hell hope it does.
Long live the Corvette.

C6 ZR1, 638HP, 3405 weight, 5.33 lbs per HP, that weight seems low
Viper, 640HP, 3431 weight, 5.36 lbs per HP
GT-R Nismo, 600HP, 3827 weight, 6.38 lbs per HP
F-Type R Coupe, 550HP, 3638 weight, 6.61 lbs per HP
911 GT3, 475HP, 3153 weight, 6.63 lbs per HP
R8 5.2, 525HP, 3737 weight, 7.11 lbs per HP
C7 Stingray, 455 HP, 3298 weight, 7.24 lbs per HP, and that weight suggests no options
F-Type V8 S Convertible, 495 HP, 3671 weight, 7.41 lbs per HP
All cars are less than $155,000

Borg Warner will have the new 8 speed tuned to perfection. The new Z06 A8 will have much better straight line performance. Might even be enough for the Nissan

Yeah the Z06 will be JUST FINE. It ain't all about HP. I'll take torque all day long and TWICE on Sunday. That's one reason I built a STROKER.
Agree the GT-R is butt ugly. More HP is like lipstick on a PIG
