VIPER - Huge discounts announced - up to $30k
'15 Dodge Viper will have more horsepower, improved fuel economy and, perhaps best of all, a new starting price of $84,995, excluding destination charges and gas guzzler tax. The new sticker is $15,000 less than the '14 model and is about the same as the original 1992 price of $50,700, adjusted for inflation. The new Viper has 645 horsepower and gets up to 20 miles per gallon. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2015. In addition to lower pricing, prices on all Vipers in dealer inventory have been discounted by $15,000. Current Generation 5 Viper owners will receive a $15,000 certificate that they can use toward the purchase of a new Dodge Viper. This is in addition to the $15,000 price reduction, so a buyer could save $30,000. Viper sales have fallen dramatically from their pre-recession levels. Dodge reported 38 sales in August, down 37.7% from August 2013. Viper is still in the black for the year with sales up 15.0% to 438 units but there are an estimated 600 still on dealer lots. Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis said, “I think the current car is so much better than any other Viper we’ve ever built, but we’ve got to fix the one last piece: We’ve got to fix the retail equation. We’ve got to fix what’s going on in the dealership, in the showroom. It’s the dealer network, it’s the inventory, it’s the pricing, it’s how we sell the car. We have to fix all of that.” Viper will now be marketed along with other Dodges and will be available from all Dodge dealers.

GM really did a number with the Z06 on what was already a failing Viper market. At least competition is good for the consumer. I'm pretty sure a number of Z06 potential buyers are reconsidering. I wonder which one will out perform the other as real Z06s hit test tracks. That gas guzzler tax will put the Viper still at a $10K price disadvantage.

Hope it's not too little too late. They really screwed this up initially and may not be able to recover. Plus the C7Z will be putting some serious competition into the equation.

You use the word easily so loosely. I am not a Viper fan but in a race between such powerful cars, do you really think a victory will be easily won. Don't forget a good driver can make a bad car perform as well as a bad driver can make a good car look bad.
All that said I will bet on the Z06

Although the Viper V10 engine is a thing of beauty... a work of art that deserves to be glass-case displayed in a fine are gallery; the body style has always been a turn-off to me. Looks like one of those kit-cars.

I like most of the design aside from some of the interior and that hood just looks stupid.

Is it me or I'm just asking for backlash.....
I have always owned corvettes....I am definitely a loyalist to the brand....but the Viper have always appeal to me, if both was priced the same, regarding the price of c7 z51 to the Viper, I would definitely cross shop....I have always seen the two car as the same pedigree....very comparable...unlike the Gtr in regard....maybe it's just me..
