With the Hellcat's coming out at $70ish, it's kinda hard to price Vipers in the $125+ range. Most of the Viper owners I know are staunch Mopar guys, that would actually consider a Hellcat Challenger given the price delta. Of course, these are guys that don't hang at the track.

As a former Z07 owner and current ZR1 owner, I welcome the next evolution in vette technology. My new Z07 will be loads of fun...until my new ZR arrives (fingers crossed). I may actually consider tracking both my current ZR and new Z07, for comparison purposes...and to see if my iRacing hours and tutoring are paying off.

It's not just HP and #'s. Sometimes the "How" is the main factor for picking the right car for you.

I saw a viper and C7 Z51 side-by-side at the DC Auto show. Between the two, the Viper was hands down the better looking car (IMO) from an exterior design standpoint. I have not seen the ZO6 in person so I cannot say for certain if my opinion would change when comparing the viper to the ZO6. I remember thinking the ZO6 would have to make a significant leap in the looks department to compete with the exterior design of the viper. Just one man's opinion, looks are subjective.

I suspect the ZO6 will be a better performer and better daily driver as well. Choices will vary based on what people place more emphasis on...looks or overall engineering.

I would need to see them side by side in person.

Can you imagine being one of the "lucky" VCA members who was given the privilege of buying a launch edition at 140K.

I was offered $35000 off sticker on a 128K 2013 GTS... In light of this if they will go to 50K off I might buy the Viper.

Really want the new Z, but damn....

Bottom line is a Viper will never be an every day car like the Z can be used for.

Image the used car owners.

The Corvette is a everyday car, the Viper is not.

A Viper is more work to drive, A C7 is easy.

I can imagine that first year cars could hit the high 50's based on this. IMO its a 3rd/4th car and most examples are low mileage.

I don't remember where I read it (it was in this very section of the forum) that one of the chief engineers said the new Z was NOT a good daily driver. Also, how do you know the new Gen V Viper isn't as good of a DD? Older Vipers I would agree with you, but the Gen V is a very nice place to be. You keep talking in facts like there is no room for preferences and interpretation. What you consider bad for DD some may not.

I don't think it's going to go well Sam....

If they give me one for Hellcat Charger money I will get the Viper instead of the Hellcat....

Then I would have a Viper AND a Z06...BOOOOwaaaHAHAHA

I think that is the Z07 package discussion - there are multiple threads on the topic.

One problem with your list. VIR was repaved and widened this past winter and the lap times are ~2 sec a lap faster for the regulars that run there. The new times from this latest test are really not comparable to the past times. You also left off that the ZR1 turn a 2:45 with Mero at the wheel.

I feel bad for the people who bought these cars that just ate a significant drop in resale value

Lawwdog is a professional racer. He took his stock C7Z51 and ran a 1:32.7 at Road Atlanta. Faster than most of our race cars on Hoosiers.

Best to heed Lawwdog's opinion on this stuff..... 1:32.7 is mighty impressive in a stock car on street tires.

I think it's an ingenious plan on Chrysler's part. In this way, they keep the current owners in the fold. It would be too difficult to walk away from a deal like that in order to buy a Z06. Very smart!

To an extent, I agree with this. When I attended the Toronto Auto show last February, there was a black Viper and a black Stingray Z51 only about 50 feet from each other. While I'm smitten with the looks of the new Stingray and think it's a handsome car, I couldn't help but think the Viper is just much more dramatically styled.

That's my predicament now. I have a line on a brand-new GTS sitting in a showroom for $45k off MSRP, which puts it under the cost of the Z07 package Z06 I was going to order. Also, considering the Viper GTS weighs 230 lbs less than the C7 Z06 will weigh, this is really, really tempting.

Wow, this makes a Z06 purchase for me very hard. New Viper for 85k? These cars will see a huge spike in sales. I like the Z06, and it may be a hair faster than the Viper, but IMO the Viper is by far the better looking and more "special" car. The only time my Vette felt special was in Europe where there aren't that many.

Look at this thing:
