Is the Z/28 Camaro considered a failure?

The "deals" that are available on the Z28's are a result of GM giving a 20% customer cash back program on a portion of "aged" inventory of Camaros. So if a Z28 has been sitting on a dealer's lot since last May, it probably qualifies for the discounts. No reduction in MSRP, just a clearing out of old inventory. A great deal on any "aged inventory" Camaro right now.
Some dealers can't sell them fast enough and some dealers can't sell any ... I guess it depends on the region and if the dealers were being asses with aggressive markups at first and turned customers off ... either way it's a good time to go deal hunting.

If you call them tomorrow, ask for Jared. He's the owner's son and the person I've been getting my information from.

To answer the OP, if the Z06 can maintain 5-6k sales a year, then it's a success. The Z/28 was never meant to be a high selling variant or a long production run and is gone for '16. The distinction is that a bad selling Z/28 doesn't mean much because the point was to prove what could be done. More of a skunks works approach. The Z06 is a halo model and helps complete the C7 line-up.

Because everybody wants the last generation Corvette that has a propensity to drop valves.
Of course, your logic doesn't apply to a 3883# GT-R, right?
A heavier car, on smaller tires, with less braking and a DCT tranny that is well known to overheat on-track mid-session with an intermediate/advanced level driver.
Note: you won't have to swap out the factory rotors on the Z28, nor will you have to change tires, go to a higher viscosity f/r diff fluid or do a tranny service when tranny fluid temps hit 260*.

Please provide the statistics supporting this statement as those of us with this vehicle would like to hear them. Before you dig too deep a hole, see page 18 of this article.

BTW, it was a head machining issue by a vender, not a valve issue.

Safety Car
I've been kicking around the idea of buying a Z28 lately, especially after seeing how they perform at the track. I've already purchased 3 new 5th gen Camaros, and the Z28 is by far the best. Even our $33K 1LE SS puts down some amazing lap times for how cheap it is. I've passed C7's, ZR1s, Vipers (including ACR's) in that 1LE, on the track. Just goes to show you that whoever is holding the steering wheel matters, on a road course. At $15K off, that really gets my attention now...
Z28 was advertised as a road course monster. It is. It is certainly legit, in that arena. I know the chief engineer on that project, he is a huge gearhead and builds his own magazine-showcased hotrods. They gave the Camaro team the green light to build the baddest Camaro they could, from the GM parts bin, and that team delivered. It trounces the C7 Stingray, around the same track. It was never marketed as a drag car, or had any claims about being faster than a ZL1. People's expectations weren't hyped up, they were exceeded with this car. The only negative is the $76K window sticker, for a car with A/C. Double the price of my '14 SS 1LE.

Drifting
I'm afraid if I were to go drive your car you might never see me again!
And Stielow is the man when it comes to first gen camaros and it appears he can work his magic on new ones as well. Knowing what kind of power he puts in his own builds I'm guessing he begged GM to let him put more in the new Z28... And then they brought up that crappy " Warranty" thing.
Surely with some minor tweaking, exhaust and a little more cam they can manage 600 warrantied hp??? Dang the federal mandates!!!

GM needs to stop caving into the magazine racing idiots and get away from ring numbers. People generally want a street bruiser like the GT500 and hellcat.
The Z28 not selling is all the proof you need, it might be a an amazing road course car, but very few people want that for the street.

Riiight ...
I wasn't doubting him, I wanted the info so as to add it to an existing thread I had authored helping people get good deals on Z/28s ... and in fact shared the info there immediately after AV Guy was kind enough to post it here. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388504
Damn, sometimes it's like being surrounded with five year old retards in here ... at least you made your little gif self applicable.
