Well, it didn't take 6-7 weeks, like originally predicted. I picked it up this morning....

I stuck my GC with two expensive options, the "Off Road Adventure II" package, at $2495, and the Hemi engine, at $3295, but the sticker on mine was still considerably less than the LR, at $47K....

You'll like it.
We bought my wife a slightly used 2013 Overland (4x2) Hemi and around here we get 12-13mpg city. It will get close to 20 on the highway according to the computer.
Not so sure about the 24mpg claim, but I've heard taller tails.
Edit: I know you've already purchased, but for reference we bought hers with 15k miles and 18 months old for $30k. It's an Overland with full glass roof, rear entertainment, etc etc. I think the only thing it doesn't have is 4wd. We were looking at new models prior to finding this and they were right around 50 for a similarly equipped truck.

You seem very interested in winter driving performance. I assume you'll get a set of dedicated snow tires on there? That will make waaaaaay difference than any locking rear end could dream of.

Congrats on your new GC!!
I was just about to start a new thread on this very same topic. When I filtered through the forums to "Other Cars", I found this thread in the top 3.
You're not making this any easier for me. Curiously, I placed my 2001 GMC Yukon up for sale on CraigsList and have already have a serious inquiry. Didn't even think anyone would bite. Now between this thread and the interested buyer for my Yukon, all signs point to GO. I really like the new Grand Cherokees but the Yukon is free and clear. Insurance is low. Registration is low. So are the Miles Per Gallon. Haha. I would really like to have a new Grand Cherokee as my daily driver. So many more ammenities and creature comforts vs. an old (outdated) 2001 Yukon. (The only thing really stopping me is having a new payment!!).
So, how do you like the HEMI ovee the V6? Correct me if I am wrong, but is the HEMI the V8 or the Diesel?
Congrats to you. What color is that?

As I initially said, I was really wanting a pick-up, for the utility ability in hauling mulch, car parts, furniture, etc, so in that respect, I'm a little disappointed. However, the liftgate is pretty big, and lifts pretty high, so I was able to recently get 4 wheels/tires in the back, without any problems.
The Off Road package I ordered has air shocks at all four corners, and the rear is self leveling, so the ride is nice. Firm, but not harsh, and not "floaty" at speed. The seats are comfortable (leather), the interior roomy, it's got a crap-load of electronic gizmos, even though I didn't order the upgraded electronic package, and the fit and finish are really good. The paint is flawless.
I didn't go "full tilt" on the dedicated snow tires, but Nokian makes what they call an "all weather" tire, that is an all season tire, with a heavy bias toward winter performance. I put a set of those on last week....
The only GC I drove with the V-6, was the "demo" unit I took home, to see if it would fit in the garage. I just can't be an "azzhat", and beat on a new vehicle, even if it's not mine, so I didn't really get on the "demo", but it seemed somewhat peppy, even for a 4500 pound vehicle. FWIW, the V-6 has just over 300 HP. My Hemi, however, is pretty quick. I actually took some time to browse through the owners manual, and they strongly suggest that you take it easy for the first 500 miles. They're even more specific about breaking in an SRT. Nonetheless, I've "poked" mine a couple of times, and it moves! However, the ride is pretty plush, so you don't feel the speed, as much as you see the speedometer scroll....
With respect to color, if mine is the one you're asking about, it's 'black crystal metallic', or something like that. I'm a "stealth" kind of guy, so I've already pulled all the badging that I could, and on the tailgate, I got a black Jeep badge to replace the "chrome" one.

That's like buying a $50,000 home theater but then sticking with normal DVD
Snows are gonna cost you about $1,000 on their own wheels and the winter traction benefits will be about 200x the value that a locking rear diff would add

So, you did all this searching and upgrading to the Hemi, etc to get the locking rear for "snow performance" but you no snow tires?

Secondly, have you read the reviews on the Nokian WRG3???
(FWIW, I'm "laying low' today, because I could hardly move at all, yesterday. I was walking back from the mailbox on Monday, one of the letters fell from the bunch, and I leaned over to pick it up, and threw out my back. That's all it takes, and it happens 2-3 times a year. No more heavy wheels/tires in and out of the basement...)

HOWEVER, while most of my driving in this Jeep will be in the winter, it will still see some driving in the summer, and snow tires die a quick death in the summer. I know this from past experience, with my first 4x4 pick-up. Yes, I could go out and spend a chunk more, for a second set of wheels/tires with dedicated snows, but I'm not getting any younger, and my back getting any stronger, to be lugging 8 wheels and tires in and out of the basement two times a year. Yeah, I did it for many years, but not any more.....

I did think of getting a set of wheels/snow tires, but then I started adding it up....Snow tires, currently at Tire Rack prices, GoodYears are $153, Michelins are $191. So, that's $612 to $764 for the tires. Wheels are somewhere between $125-150 each. So that's another $5-600. TPMS sensors are $45-50 each, so that's another $180-200.
SO, we're at somewhere between $1292-$1564......plus tax! If I buy online, then there's shipping charges, or if I buy locally, there's mounting and balancing. So there's probably another $100. And, if I go by my previous truck, as a yardstick of how many miles I'll put on this vehicle, I'll probably put around 4000-4500 miles a year on it. With that limited usage, I couldn't justify the additional expense, especially when factoring in the physical strain of lugging roughly 60 pound wheel/tire assemblies up and down the basement stairs......and also considering the snow ratings of the Nokian WRG3s.....
