I watched the video bit I missed a race. I have no idea what was going on with the Viper, but 12.17 is nowhere indicative of what a Viper runs. Even the 11.75 for the Z06 is way off.
The manor in which the Z06 caught and passed the Viper, I would guess the Viper shifted from 2nd to 5th gear by mistake. But Who knows?

That was my first thought(farce), but I didn't want to say it or people would label me as a "hater".
There is too much evidence of the Viper's strong point against the C7 Z06 is it's ability to pull away on the top end, not nose over.

Well I'm glad we finally figured this all out! NOT.

Scraping the splitter.
The Viper did win. The Z06 didn't "catch and pass" it. That's a "win light" for the left lane, and why the board lit up first.
This is, at the drag strip, a perfect example of why I think most of those roll race videos don't tell much. Rarely do cars leave at the same time and the car that gets the jump will only lose from a roll if the other car is quite a bit faster. In this case, the Viper had a much better R/T and even though it was ~.4 slower to 1320', it still "won".

GM said the 2004 C5 Z06 was 12.4 seconds and the 10th fastest pure stock C5 Z06 is 12.131 at 120.65 (the fastest is 11.783 at 116.90).
I find it hard to believe a 640 HP viper is slower than the 10th fastest 405 HP C5 Z06, especially since the Viper showed no signs of sitting on the starting line, wildly spinning it's tires..
That looked more like bracket racing instead of all for the title racing.
