Competition requires showing up. We sought a LaFerrari to join the P1 and the 918. McLaren sent tech support, Porsche a 918, but Ferrari refused to grant permission for hot laps and data acquisition to the LaFerrari owner we had lined up.
So sad. Prop's to 918 and it's AWD!

Very disappointing that Ferrari did not accept the challenge to compete.

Does AWD beat the best that RWD can come up with?
To date this seems to be the new rule!
Does it not sound familiar considering history, and the overweight AWD GTR beating lesser weight RWD cars with more power (including both the Viper T/A, and the C7ZO6 with ZO7 option) ?
These are the facts and they cannot be disputed
Thumbs down for Ferrari's prancing horse show car failure to show up for weigh in......... what a bunch of high priced pussies

For me the most surprising was the braking performance you would expect a car costing 1M and having F1 technology to have incredible braking. This test confirms what i also saw in COTA were the Z06 clearly close the gap with the P1 in the straight by outbraking it, even in turn 1 the P1 overran the turning point like Pobst said.
And is a problem in the 650S also, Mclaren braking is simply not up to Porsche or Z06 levels.

I was there for this test. The only thing I noticed was the temperature differential was much cooler when the 918 was on the track vs when the P1 it seemed to be much hotter. Maybe not enough to make a difference but they mentioned it in the article also.

And what time we should expect from the Z06?

One issue that I'm positive I've read in one of the UK mags isn't mentioned, and it is vitally important if correct:
The Porsche drains the batteries to the AWD front mounted electric motors quickly; if I remember correctly in about two laps at WOT, at which time the car reverts to RWD mode only powered by it's gasoline motor. Hence, whilst the Porsche is faster than the P1 due to it's AWD nature initially, (for one or two laps), when the 'juice' runs out, the P1 will quickly reel in and leave the 918 behind.
If an owner or other Porsche nut knows differently, please educate me.
