Default Ultima Evolution, 2094 lbs, 1020 hp!

Always dreamed of building an Ultima GTR as a kid, and now they have a successor, the Evolution:

Damn that's a nice looking car! Ultima has kept true to their formula - matching and beating current super/hyper cars for 1/10th the price.

0 - 60 in 2.3s, 30 - 70 in 1.5s, 0 - 100 in 4.9s, 0 - 150 in 8.9s, 1/4 mile in 9.2s @ 156 mph. Not bad for $110k or so...

I settled for my Vette because it was the most practical fun car at this point in my life. But someday!

Sure is, here`s one driving around State side:

You can basically put whatever motor in it as you wish.

I wonder if a big block fits. A 540 all aluminum is only 100 lbs more than an LS7, and can make reliable 700 hp all day long.

The 720hp version did a 1:12 on street tires at the Top Gear track.

Definitely a "toy" car. No power steering, no AC, no rolldown windows. Alot of fun for a nice cool Saturday morning though.

They are, in fact, incredible cars, and mine is actually as fast at the two road race tracks that I run on, Eagles Canyon Raceway near Decatur, Texas, and Hallett Motor Raceway near Tulsa, Oklahoma, as either one of my Ariel Atoms.

And that is very strong praise.

It is frankly not as much fun as the Atom, because at Around 2090 pounds, it is over 700 pounds heavier than the Atom. In a straight line it is fine, but not near as responsive, or tossable, in the corners, as the 1350 pound Atom.

Beautiful Can Am there! What engine do you have in there?

You know you've driven some fast / light cars when you describe an Ultima as "in a straight line it is fine, but not near as responsive, or tossable, in the corners" lol

The Atom, X-Bow, Radical, and Caterham aside, I think the Ultima is as light as you can get. Even the Factory Five GTM is heavier by 300 lbs or so.

It is an earlier generation Chevy small block that I built with a Dart aluminum block and Air Flow Research aluminum heads, 569 HP to the tires, if I remember right, without referring back to the dyno sheets.

If the 2090 pound Ultima is not right on line in a corner, the extra 700+ pounds makes it noticeably harder to get it back on line. And if the 2090 pound car ever gets past a nice drift and goes into a slide- it is almost impossible to gather it back up. But a light touch on the brake with the left foot will bring the 1350 pound Atom right back on line, no sweat, don't even have back off the throttle. The 1350 pound Atom will pretty much insure that you will never be really happy with anything heavier- if you like cornering and road racing.
