New Camaro 800HP?
Has anyone been following the new Camaro? Chevy is going to release on May16th. Some people at Chevy dealerships say they are hearing the new Camaro is going to be over the top. Their claim is from the higher up in Chevy. And yeah I know this is the Corvette Forum but for all the Hellcat comparisons just wondering what others think.

well I happen to be in one of the biggest Camaro clubs/forums that has some direct contacts....and I can tell you that your dealer is spewing SH*T.....and is just either yanking your chain, or has his head up his a$$ trying to impress unknowing buyers.

Well I would think GM would want to throw out a number higher than Dodge's 700hp. Maybe 725-750?

I think the new LT1 Camaro will have 450 hp, just shy of the Corvette.
I have heard they are working on a project to rival the Hellcat with around 800hp....but who knows if that is the case.

There was an April fools story about an 800hp Camaro, that's probably where it came from.
I'm not sure there is any reason to go that big, at some point your going to run into the law of diminishing returns. Judging from the Z28 and GT350 that number is probably in the 500-550hp range for these cars.

Chance of GM coming out with an 800hp Camaro is the same chance as finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Actually you'd have a better chance probably at finding that gold vs them coming out with a Camaro even just topping the Hellcats power rating. They'll more likely to do something like the ZL1 and Z28 again. Not gonna cannibalize their Vette sales nor the amount of people that would be pissed (vette owners). Ford and Dodge don't have to worry about that, Viper is sold in tiny numbers (though quite a few owners have picked up Hellcat cars) and Ford has nothing until the next GT but thats a totally different class and price difference lol.

I can definitely see an 800hp factory Camaro. If Ford can pull of 660 with a Mustang, Dodge with 707(arguably more than that), then GM can come out with an 800hp Camaro. The technology is obviously there. I'd just be interested to see how they can sell it and meet emissions. Any Corvette owner intimidated by an 800hp Camaro, clearly bought their car not to enjoy but, have a false since of security.

The Corvette is GM/Chevrolet's "halo car", not the Camaro. The 'Vette might get an 800 HP engine, but NEVER the Camaro.......unless the 'Vette gets one with 900!

I don't feel like GM has ever really been concerned with having the highest HP car in its class, so I don't expect to see any new Camaro with power numbers eclipsing the Hellcat. Would love to see it though.

Would bet money it'll never happen, this is "GM" we're talking about. You'll see similar cars ala the GT350 and possibly they'll do another blown version like the ZL1.... but highly doubtful they'll exceed GT500 (or whatever the new model will be) power levels nor Hellcat. GM isn't going to design a specific engine for the Camaro like Ford and Dodge have, thats not how they operate else they'd have done that already. All they did was drop in the LS7 and LSA. I'd bet money all you'd see is a detuned/similar version of the LT4 in the ZO6 and next CTS-V. Be interesting to see what they do with the Z28 against the GT350 as don't think their going to use the older LS7 as they've phased out that engine and supplies and aren't going to keep using an older engine, but they don't have any other high hp n/a V8, so possibly a worked version of the LT1.... but we'll have to see, this is GM, king of current engine swaps

But the Viper is the faster car, because it's not the "porker" that the Challenger is, therefore it doesn't need the extra HP. And THAT'S why the Viper is the "halo car" at FCA......

Historically the camaro has been given the best of the motors available for the corvette albeit sometimes a tad later such as the L72 427/425 was not factory installed until 69 that was the same year the chevelle got it
