I'm sure I'll regret asking but anyone knows anything about this? :
Makes the 918 lap look like childs play.

Chit that's fast...
Corsa street tires....no idea who the driver is?
Lambo said they were headed to the ring with it and we're very open that they were going to absolutely release the lap time (in a statement to road and track).... So I can believe it is legit.
Sounds like McLaren should officially spit out that P1 time.

Very impressive. But I looked at the beginning and end of the video a few times and they didn't stop the clock the same place on track that they started it. Same small straight before the first turn, but the clock starts at the end of it and stops near the beginning.

Seems more like the time would around 7:01/02 mark thus not sub 7 minutes.

That is the way the lap time is measured these days. You can thank Nissan and the GTR for that..

On the Nordschleife everybody measures the time like this. The reason why they measure it like this is, because on offical races they don't drive this little part between the "start" and the "end". No they don't jump over it, but the GP course is attached to the Norschleife track there. So if you measure it like that you can compare times from race cars with those manufacturer times. "Sport Auto", a famous german car magazine started to measure like that for their "Supertests". So other manufacturers also started to measure their times like this.

When did they start measuring times like this for the production cars? Recently (last 5-10 years?)

That's interesting, I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I thought it was always measured start to stop but I guess I never paid close enough attention. I've never watched an official race on that track, either. But interestingly I was watching my first race there, a bit of the 24hr race yesterday via live stream... But it was nighttime portion.

It's truly amazing how far cars have come in the last 8 - 10 years!!!
In some ways it's a bit sad that the traditional manual is going (gone) away, and that with all of the electronic nannies on today's cars, even a snot-nosed pizza delivery boy could turn fast laps. There used to be a helluva lot more difference when you did the driver mod. Now cars make most of the tough decisions for you....

Another benefit of timing it this way is that it's easier to pull into the pit immediately after the lap, rather than having to complete another 13-mile lap.

I can't imagine, I've done the equivalent of an 8:30ish which is great for an ameuture, and I've riden in GT-3 as we did the equivalent of a 7:40ish; and that was enough for me.

The Aventador is a surpisingly large car when viewed in person, much larger than the other top contendors for the best Ring time. The "regular" Aventador weighs in at nearly 4200 pounds while the "lightweight" SV edition only shaves about 200 pounds off of the portly Aventador
A couple of years back Lambo constructed a track only car midway in size between the Aventador and the Gallardo that was made as light as possible and almost entirely out of CF. At 2200 pounds it was a full one ton lighter than the standard Aventador
All twenty examples were sold at 2.2 million
