Not impressed with 2015 Mustang GT
For the record, I owned two 2013 Mustang GTs, one manual with 3.73 gears and one auto. I saw the 2015 Mustang GT at the Houston car show and left unimpressed with what I saw.
Also, I'm not brand loyal.
Fast forward to today 8/14/15.
My subscription to Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords is still good and today I received the October 2015 magazine. In big letters on the cover was "Drag Test, 2015 S550 runs 12.91 @ 112.58 in factory trim". Bone stock.
Oh really..........that really hauls ***, NOT.
The car was a manual, but not with 3.73 gears and was raced in good, but not great DA of 85 degrees and mild humidity. Unlike my 2013s, this car had line lock which should help clean off the tires.
Some of the Mustang GT (2013-2014) guys may have hit 12.6 on a rare occasion, and there were a lot like myself with times in the 12.7s bone stock with decent weather. My PB was 12.70. This 2015 also had around 15 more horsepower than the 2013-2014 models, but I think the weight increased a bit that would offset the 15 horsepower gain.
For the guys who bought the new generation Mustang, if they're happy, then I'm happy for them. For real.
However if I were the owner of a Mustang magazine that was practically the Mustang bible, I really don't think I would be putting on the cover about a Mustang GT running a 12.91.
For the 2013-2014 years I was a big time Mustang GT fan, however it looks like the Camaro SS with the LT1 and weight loss just went way to the front of the line where the Camaro vs. Mustang fans are concerned. The Camaro lost me as a possible customer with the 2013 models because I didn't want to take the 30 or so horsepower penalty with the automatic, and for this year you can get the automatic with the same horsepower as the manual.
OK Mustang GT, you had a good run from 2011 to 2014, however get out of the left hand lane and let the Camaro SS lead the pack for awhile.

in all fairness 12.91 is pretty terrible for a stock 2015. The LT1/A8 camaro should be considerably quicker than the current S550 though I agree. One thing I never understood is when "enthusiasts" talk about what a car runs stock. Every performance car I have ever owned I bought with the intention of modifying to make faster and I always chose the car based on its performance potential and ease of modification...never cared what it ran off the showroom floor.

Melting Slicks
Easily the best looking car of the three, and I believe there is more to the package than straight up drag speed.
Also, is it fair to compare a magazine time with owners times with lots of seat time? Seems to me the Corvette has always been much slower in magazine tests than in the hands of Corvette hot shoes.

I agree the new S550 Mustangs look good especially the 5.0 GT over the Ecoboost and 6-cyl ones... and they also perform well, IMO. But to me, the topnotch version to really shoot for is the new Shelby GT350/GT350R.

just saw a new one this past weekend. awesome looking car.
if i had a need for a 2-door with quasi-back seats in a pinch to haul others, that'd probably be the car. or at least on the very short list.

Fully optioned PP GT without the anniversary package. 43K.
I have put another 16K in it thereabouts and I love the car now.
