Risk is worth the reward IMO.

And I always buy track insurance.

Early apexing turn 9 at Big Willow has collected quite a few the same way over the years.

If you look at the tire marks on the pavements LOTS of cars went off the track there...
that guy surely found the limit though

Track insurance, or read your policy and if it allows for non-timed track events, do those.

As long as the people in the car are in good shape, that's all that matters.

Like I said, it's an almost common occurrence at that part of the track. I've seen at least two go off there over the years with the same results (roll over). Heard about many more from friends.

Quick question, what happens now to the driver if he hasn't bough out track insurance? Are his damages out of pocket?

gotta leave the ego at home when it comes to HPDE's. I remember I was always waving people by me. I didn't GAF It meant more to me going home with the same amount of paint as I arrived. Even with R compounds, good pads and knowing the lines I still was very conservative. That guy was way off his line and he was just too hot to correct. Feel bad for the guy. I hope he was ok

I did a couple track days with a Subaru Impreza WRX. The first day was a blast. The second day was good in the morning, but in the afternoon I made a mistake and banged up the car. I was slightly off the line I wanted and tried to correct. Big mistake when at the limit, which is where I had the car. I would've made the turn if I had kept the line I had, I just would've been slower coming out of the turn. Lesson learned.

I haven't tracked a car since. I'd like to try tracking my 'Vette, but I'm afraid of making a mistake again. But if there is insurance that can be had to cover me when on the track, I may consider trying it again.

In the meantime, I'll just autocross the car.

I just googled track day insurance. It appears there are options. I'll have to research it more when I have time.

I'm enjoying imagining all the posters here traipsing around the mall in their piloti driving shoes.

Don't take a car to the track you can't afford to put in the wall.
