2015 Ultimate Track Car Challenge
A couple of good articles in the November issue of Grassroots Motorsports - The 2014 Viper SRT GT3R won the Ultimate Track Car Challenge at VIR for the second year in a row, and a bone stock 2016 ACR finished 12th against a field of mostly full-on race cars. The only other "close to production" car, a 2015 TA on Hoosier R-7s finished 19th. There were a bunch of modified Nissan GTRs and Porsche GT2/3s, but no Corvettes in the field??? The 2016 ACR received the "Fastest Street Production" car award. Wish a Z06 in production form had shown up - would have been a great venue to get a real word comparison.

Ben Keating loves that event, and has won it the last two years in the Viper. The reason why? Because all those race teams get to run their cars without the restrictor plates and ballast weight, in their purest form. That is why the Viper dominates!

The only reason the Viper dominates is because the new Z06 was not entered.

Funny, but last year when the Viper and C7R were in the same GTLM class - the Viper won the Championship for the season. Now the Viper went into a different class and Corvette still isn't dominating.

Lots of chatter on recent Z06 threads about C7 Z06s (on Hoosiers) being able to run 2:03s (and maybe even a guy with a 2:02) on the full course at VIR recently. But the completely STOCK, including street tires as delivered, 2016 Viper ACR driven by Chris Winkler at the Ultimate Track Car Challenge ran a 1:56:727. A 2015 TA on R7s ran a 2:00.605 as well. Maybe there is a reason the Z06 was not entered?? By the way, the "dominate" Viper Nineball is talking about ran a 1:46:436.

Another interesting comment by one of the Road and Track PCOTY drivers -- "At NCM Motorsports Park, the Ferrari did a brilliant job dealing with heat that made some of our other PCOTY entrants a little weak in the oil gauges." Wonder who that comment was aimed at? Sounds like more than one entrant.
