We own a 1963 Spit widow Resto Mod, a 2004 Z06 and a 2004 Mazda Speed (turbo Charged) Miata.
We like all the cars in different ways.

He said "respect" the car, not like it. "Respect" and "like" are not synonyms. Also, a Civic is not a Miata. One is an economy car and the other a sports car.

I had an 01. Great handling but under powered. It was kind of a girls car. Girls kept stopping to tell me how cute it was.

I had a 2009 Miata and loved it. Only reason I traded it on my C7 a year ago was lack of garage space for both. If I had the room, would definitely keep both. Neither is better than the other, they both excel at different things.

For tooling around the neighborhood, the Miata is much more fun than the C7. As far as supposedly being a girl's car, that doesn't matter any more than the Corvette being known as an old man's car. I buy & drive what I like and don't care what others think. I also have owned many Harley's & proudly drive a minivan frequently.

Several years ago, went on a first date in the minivan. Girl said my Harley was fine but she couldn't date somebody that drives a minivan. I said that meant we wouldn't be dating then. The minivan actually proved to be more useful on some dates than any car could possibly be.

With you 'til the minivan part. I tell folks if they see me driving a minivan to call the police because I have been kidnapped
