A 442 with three carbs? Did someone put a GTO motor in it?

Nope...........The "J-2" option was on Oldsmobile's list since the late 50s.

I remember the 57s but didn't know the option was available on the 4-4-2. A housemate I had in 67 had a new one that was very very fast.

J-2's were 371 cubic inches with tri-power; built in 1957 and 1958. Only 442's to have tri-power were about 2100 built in 1966.

I never cared for the styling of the '66-'67 442 as compared to the GTO or Chevelle. That said, the tripower versions were very, very fast, and the build quality was better than the Pontiac or the Chevy. An under-rated musclecar, but not as under-rated as the Buick GS of those years. The 442 pictured, even if it was a gift, is not worth restoring....worth more as parts than as a car. Could buy a nice clean one for about 1/5 the cost of restoring this one.

To me the 65 GTO is the prettiest. I had the opportunity to drive one along with a 64, both with tri pwr. Monsters, both of them!

.....plus a little bit of detail spray and gunk down the engine compartment and everything will be fine.

True, but Olds later changed it to "400 cu/in, 4 barrel carb, dual exhaust".......

Juiceman, Get ahold of Greg at Supercars Unlimited. He's on the forum here as 88Z51. He'll get you going in the right Direction.

Then get ready for the carshow "experts" to ask you the usual questions like"Does it still have the original 442 CID engine??"
