Default 2016 gasser 6.2 or diesel LML

Just wondering if anyone has one or have experienced any issues with the 2 trucks. I'm in the market and prices are good, I've had a'02 sierra 5.3 since new and it finally has gone bad with only 120k on it. abs sensors/module and the dreaded coolant leak / porous heads.

I know the diesel will hold its value over the gas, and diesel is cheap now, approx 2.15 to 2.25 per gallon. the gas 5.3/6.2 have the fuel management/cylinder derived deactivation which kinda concerns me.

I don't plan to mod the 6.6 until warrany expires just like as the gas. im not towing tanks or huge boats, opinions are requested.

The diesel is flat out better. So if you just simply have to have a Silverado, and have the money, it's the better choice.

Personally, I'd buy a Colorado or F150 or something.

Thx, I just won't fit in a colorado.
for a occasional daily driver maybe but not for the long hauls. need the leg room. had a early 90's s10 blazer back in the day and that was no bueno for leg room for me.

I've been in the 150's and they are roomy, more than GM I just have not felt the urge to move to another manufacturer.

I have a 2010 Tahoe with the 5.3, it is at 146,000 miles and the DOD (or engine) has had no issues. I have even reprogrammed it to run as a 4cyl more and no issues at all and about 1/2 MPG better. One of my friends that builds engines told me these he saw some issues with some of the early DOD engines but mine is fine. I run E85 in it for 3 straight tanks like once a year and the engine feels as strong as it did new.

I'm selling my 2015 Denali crew 6.2 4x4, only 14k miles, stone blue on black leather, $44k or so. I need suburbans with all the kids and their stuff, the crew just isn't big enough. The 6.2L and 8speed is awesome.

Per TurboT...go drive a 1500 6.2 Truck. You won't be disappointed, only reason for a 3/4 Ton/Diesel would be towing HEAVY, HEAVY trailers. My '15 5.3 gladly tows a 6500# boat or steel car trailer with a 3000-5500# load.

I'll go 6.2 next time just for shutting up Ecoboost drivers...

I wouldn't beat myself to death in a 2500 unless I needed the 15K# tow rating...

thanks to all for the opinions, I got my the 6.6 2016 for a price I could not refuse. the ride is not all that bad, definitely rougher than my sierra 1500 which I expected. I could not find the 6.2 anywhere near me for the price I got for the 6.6. the difference for the loaded 6.2 LTZ vs 6.6 LTZ was 3k$. before taxes the price was 49k.

I'm totally pumped to see how this truck pans out, if I get sick of it, the resale value will hold higher than any gas truck and I'll have an easy trade in.

Took it hunting, 500 miles this past weekend and per the computer it got 18mpg avg. I need to manually check those averages, but I was still impressed.

thanks!

I just ordered a 17 ltz with a 6.2. Have a 16 with a 5.3 and surprisingly is fun. turn off TC and stabilitrac and roast at will.
I had an 09 a while back that I took to blackbear tuning in VA for a hot 93 tune. I was VERY happy to say the least. Truck would chirp 2nd at will and that was a crew cab with 20s. I traded in with close to 70k with no problems . I always wondered if new owner knew what they had.
For this one I will probably do headers, exhaust and a tune again as well. Would love to do a cam, but don't have the ***** to really, really mess with the warranty.
I so wish gm would put a detuned Z06 engine in and add another 10-15k to price.
