How Many Bad A8 Transmissions Has GM Produced? It Boggles The Mind
This from AutoBlog, GMs Big SUVs making the "Worst" list this year. Top complaint? Bad A8 transmissions. We must be to low volume of a product to get a mention but I'm guessing the percentage of bad transmissions is equal to the suvs.

Back to the subject...the reliability ratings are from Consumer Reports' 2015 surveys and are a "prediction" of 2016 results. GM vehicles listed in the Top 20 Least Reliable New Cars are for 2015 models, "predictive" for 2016 models, and as such is not based on any hard data for 2016 models at this time. Here is the statement from Consumer Reports:
Consumer Reports' 2015 reliability survey predicts the reliability of 2016 cars and trucks based on a survey of their subscribers and how they've fared with their new vehicles. This year's survey took into account the owners of 740,000 vehicles, asking about any troubles with transmissions, steering, backup cameras, technology in the car and more.
Although all of the problems below were fixed under warranty, Consumer Reports says the terms and issues highlighted were the most commonly used by car owners in the survey, and that some of the repairs required several visits to the dealer with lengthy delays.

Drifting
Not for nothing, but I have seen a number of reviews of cars with this transmission which complain about it.
And yet the biggest problem isn't technical, its GM's attitude towards dealing with it.

I don't think you'll have definitive information until the 2017 has been on the road for a while. But I do think GM takes the concern seriously based on what I know, and the people in charge at various levels within GM are sincere about their desire to improve their products. I also think every problem gets magnified with the social media we all have access too. And when one person can post over and over again under various user names about A8 problems, the real issue with his vehicle all of a sudden appears widespread among a large number of forum members. I had a 2015 A8 and had absolutely no problems with it during the year and a half of ownership. But that's just me.

My 2016 C7 Z A8's tranny with 6,400 on the clock had a catastrophic failure and stranded me about 1 month ago and should be ready this week as GM stepped up like they obviously should have and my car is getting a complete new tranny and torque converter.
I have to admit though this the fact that my trans took a dump on a brand new C7 Z with less than 6,500 miles has been very disheartening to me and I don't have much faith in these trannys right now and thank GOD for factory warranties.
