Default Opel Considering Bringing Back "Baby Corvette" GT

The Opel GT sticks out as one of our favorite imports of the '60s. And, with some luck, it could be coming back.

Please, please, please give it more HP than the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S. Those are handsome, well-handling little cars that deserve more than 200 hp. The world needs more manual-transmissioned, RWD cars.

My first car was a 1968 Opel Kadette Rallyee - bright orange - I really liked it but boy was it hard to get parts - I think VW had some engine parts in it - it was a long time ago LOL

My first car was a blue '72 Opel GT. Had some fun times with that car. Depending on what the final rendering looks like (if they decide to build it), I'd be open to buying one (as long as the price isn't ridiculous).

In spite of the gushing about the Opal GT in this article, it was not a good car - reliability, dealer support, body integrity, etc - all sub pat even by late 60's early 70's standards. (and I liked the car).

I bought a '73 Opel GT and drove it from Riverside to Newport Beach California everyday as a commuter. Back then highway 91 was a two lane road that wound through a canyon and not the twelve lane super highway it is today. I remember that Gt was comfortable and I'm 6'1", it was nimble, got great mileage and ran for over 100,000 miles without any troubles. The rear wheel drive, 4 speed manual, was no super car but it had style. At the time I remembered toying with the thought of dropping in a slant 6 or V6 just for fun. I wish I still had it and hope they bring it to the states.

The Opel Manta of the 70's was a superb handling machine. It had little horse power but was a ton of fun to drive and held the road better than our group's Cuda 340, AMX 360, Camaro Z28.
