Default I test drove the Charger Scat 392. Very Nice!

I test drove the 2017 Charger Scat Pack 392. It was fast and comfortable. I think I want it. I need to do some due diligence before I commit. Please chime in.
I need a four door vehicle for work and the Charger may fit the bill. I currently drive a GMC Sierra SLT that has a 6.2L that is very nice and I would love to keep it but I think I may get more enjoyment out of the Charger. The Charger feels faster than my stock 2005 Corvette and more polished as well.
I have to figure out which car I want to trade in, the Corvette or the GMC. I go thru many cars and don't feel the need to hang onto one too long. I have an S2000 to scratch the itch for something that handles well if I let the Corvette go.
I ask of you, thoughts on Charger with the 392 engine. Suggest something superior to the Charger with four doors. The SS or SHO doesn't interest me and I don't feel comfortable spending CTS-V or M5 money.
Thank you for your replies,
JR

Good luck finding something better... my Scat 392 shaker car ran with a C7 at the drag strip and I'm guessing with better air could have bested it. And that's at 4500ish pounds. Stock C6's are easily outrun. I have had as many of these mopars as I have Corvettes (10 each) and can't say anything bad about them. The regular R/T's are like grandma cars in comparison to the 392's.

Also the powe curve is very different to me compared to the GM power plants. The GM's like to wind up whete the mopar motors seem fat across the board.

I don't honestly get how thats possible. These cars run high 12s low 13's and trap in the low 11x's. C6's trap 114-115 and mid 12s.

I love the Scat Pack as well but still think the Vette is faster.

It's the best value in a sedan, bar none. I thought about one, but the thought of the enjoyment of a stick, and the AWD for the snow and stuff pushed me into the STI (resale didn't hurt). When I hit a deer and I thought my car might be totaled, the 392 Charger was at the top of the list of cars I was gonna look at.

Honestly it's a great car. Fast, comfortable, can be optioned very luxuriously, and the sound is great. If I lived somewhere with any amount of traffic, no need for AWD, or were just doing it over again... I'd probably have gone that route. Maybe the SRT 392, that's probably the tougher decision than it vs competition...

Regular R/T's run low 13's. The scat pack's run low/mid 12's regularly. I've got a video of me racing a C7. I'll see if I can find it. I think I ran a 12.5 and the C7 a 12.4 but we were in kinda crappy air (hot summer night DA +2000) but completely stock including the tires. I feel if I ran in October I'd be consistent 12.2's at our track with good cold air under 1000 DA. Guys near the glory tracks with negative DA's I believe have tapped the 11's.

Also for comparison sake, I had more passes on my C6 than probably any car I've owned and the best I could muster with a good solid run was an 8.41 (eighth mile was all we had at the time) and that's a whole bunch of runs with that car in the time I owned it. The scat pack in the run above against the C7 ran an 8.0. Let me see if I can find the vid.

I agree with the power curve of the GM. I enjoy the initial kick from the Charger. The Charger fells more responsive and kicks you in the seat more. The increase in torque is very noticeable.

Thank you for your feedback,
JR.

I traded in a 2015 WRX for the GMC. I enjoyed the WRX more than any car I have ever owned. My wife and kid did not enjoy the ride at all, but it was a brilliant car.

Thank you for your feedback,

If the space of the WRX was ok, you could look at a CLA45, some decent deals on them to be had. Lots of low mile CPO cars under 40k. Or the Ausi S3 or Golf R.

I really like the CLA45, its my #2 to the 392.

I'm also really liking the 392 Chargers. Probably will go with the SRT model. The thought of having a 4 door, 475hp, 8spd family car really speaks to me. It's fun having a 1000whp Corvette, but having it sit in the garage 300 days a year just doesn't do it for me.

I've had a couple SRT Jeeps and the power delivery is addicting. You can't go wrong

Those are actually even harder to find and if you don't keep them long then the scat is a better choice. The value on the SRT's tanks real hard the first two years. Plus they are significantly higher priced and same power. You get the active suspension and 275's at all corners instead of 245's. Not enough to sway the extra money out of my pocket but I don't keep my toys long so minimizing resale loss is high on my priority list.

Resale value is not really a concern even if I don't keep it long. They are within 10k of each other from what I've seen locally and both are in huge supply. There are 6 dealers within 50 miles of me that have a ton of '16 of each type on the lot. Was shocked that I could get the exact color and options without having to really look.

I have had 4 Vettes and 3 SRTs, I recently traded my C7 for a Hellcat Challenger. Both are great cars and have all been good to me. I traded the C7 because I wanted something bigger, but did not want to lose any performance. You can't go wrong with the Scat Pack considering what you get for the money. Comfort, practicality and awesome performance. Personally, I think the uconnect system is miles ahead of GMs technology.

Best in the business in my opinion. They have had excellent head units for quite a few years. The one that came in my 2009 SRT Challenger was even good.

Did not know they were that quick. I know they are heavy but definitely have the power to back it up. Would love to have one for a daily.

I'd like to run across one. My STSV seems to be a close match, similar weight and HP.

I really like the CLA45, its my #2 to the 392.

We have three benz in the house

CLA 45 AMD
C 43 AMG Coupe
CLA 250

All three are spectacular cars in their own rights. The CLA 45 is a monster, it is just explosive and with a tune, down pipe and CAI you can get almost 400 at the wheels.. Oh and it's AWD. I love it! The CAL250 I would not recommend if power is your thing, it is nice and comfy but lacks power and is what I would call boring to drive. We have it because I purchased it for my mom to drive our son to school in. The wife drive the C43 coupe

You will not go wrong with the 45

You'd get walked. That STSv barely breaks into the 13s (13.8)
