Default 0-60, 2.27s - Tesla P100DL

http://insideevs.com/tesla-model-s-p...-2-28-seconds/

Pretty insane! When will it stop...these are street cars for goodness sakes! 'Only' 10.5s in the 1/4...so obviously it's sweet spot is launching...

I know they are different cars for different purposes, but this has to put the super and hyper car companies on notice. In 5-10 years Model 3's and Chevy Bolt's will be out accelerating their halo cars.

Curious to see if the new C7 ZR1 or Z06XX and the C8 platform (maybe mid-engine) will get to 2.5s 0-60...

We can knock on the Tesla or joke all we want...but if you're in your new Z06 or even a Veyron and some soccer mom hammers you off the light it's not gonna feel good. ICE sports cars no longer reign supreme in stop light races...and as EV gets more popular sports car guys/gals are gonna have a tough pill to swallow. We can talk about handling ALL we want...but it's pretty rare to be 'road racing' on the streets.

I still like the sound of ICE and the nostalgia of old school cars...but the future is now.

I'm surprised even with AWD that it can hook that well!

Of course in any car with a sufficiently sized electric motor and a battery capable of delivering the current for short bursts, the acceleration will be limited only by traction, really.

They cannot sustain it like a gasoline motor, so they'll be unlikely to be competitive in endurance racing of any kind, but will shortly own most acceleration records for doorslammers, I think.

At least for any kind of streetable car, EV will soon be universally faster.

And I'm not sure how I feel about that - but as long as they're still ALSO making powerful gasoline cars, it's the good old days for now!

The Tesla runs the quarter mile as fast as most 80s cars could do a 0-60!

My son's friends father has one and we see it at school all the time. I told my son "you know that car is faster than mine right?"
It was funny to see the stunned look on his face. I just told him we need to race long enough for him to run out of battery.

I saw a show on PBS the other day about the search for new battery technology.
It sounds like we haven't seen nothing yet.
Apparently, we are on the cusp of doubling battery power, and when that happens, look out!

Yes that thing is fast and 1/4 mile at 10.5 @ 125 mph, but it also costs $146,000

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if a bunch of senior citizens would have a class action lawsuit against Tesla for "whiplash".

How much is a Veyron or Chiron or LaFerrari or 918 or P1 again? I agree $146k is a lot...but the future is now. Crazy part is, literally anyone can mash on it and get 2.5s every time.

I prefer ICE...but I have to respect EV...it'll be a while before they can compete on a race track for 50 laps etc...but right now for everyday drivers, it's pretty impressive

When that happens our gasoline powered dinosaurs will be worth nothing more than scrap metal.

0 to 272 MPH in 3.0 seconds

5 1/4 gee during early part of run.

I understand the space shuttle sees about 3 1/2 gee max.

Default This looks like your typical (Bad To The Bone) family car.

This street V6 did this on a 0 boost launch. A one PSI launch would produce a John Force burnout on the 275/15 MT drag radials.

OK, let's do the math.

A Turbo Regal will run high 13s when well prepped in stock form.
A P100D will run mid-10s when well prepped in stock form.

As for what they'll each do modified, who cares? You can stick a Top Alcohol motor in a Vega, it doesn't make Vegas fast.

(Actually I personally do care and think fast V6 Turbo Buicks are awesome, but comparing modified to stock does nothing for me).

A former employee of mine bought a slightly used P85 D+ (AWD) and I got to drive it.

The instant and very linear acceleration is incomparable, except maybe Top Thrill Dragster at CedarPoint.

Pretty amazing.

Rear end get can loose in hard cornering though.

A few months later I traded the Stingray for the Z06.

I call hella bs on those times. For one the 0-60 is considerably faster than what Tesla or anyone else has gotten and what the heck is with that trap speed? That's like 5mph faster than anyone else is getting. Not denying that the Tesla is CRAZY fast, but I don't believe these numbers.

I'm test driving a Tesla Thursday. My next car will be electric or at the very least a serious hybrid. Hopefully GM uses their E-Ray trademark by then otherwise I'll be in a Tesla or the i8 replacement or all electric 911 or....

The 0-60 isn't BS. The situation is that the electric motors are able to run traction control abilities far and beyond what an ICE vehicle can do. Yes there's a hell of a lot of torque at "0 rpm" and it's AWD but the main thing is the traction control system.

It's incredible because the car isn't designed for it. Much like the McLaren F1 happened to be the fastest car in the world for years but wasn't designed for such a spec.

Great at things to come in the future of cars...until it's all autopilot.

Best,
Gene

I was referring mainly to the trap speed because the 0-60 time is calculated with a rollout which is why its better. Trap speed is WAY higher than everyone else.

Also fight the autopilot. What im hoping is that it will be just on an on off switch and when its off the self driving stuff is running in the background keeping things safe, allowing me to still drive when I want. I read that a study said that if all cars were equipped with level 1-2 autonomy like auto braking and lane keep, fatal crashes would drop by 80%. Just up their effectiveness and boom, 100% fewer deaths and we can still drive.

0 to 60 is cool I guess if you want to brag on the internet. But I don't really care about it. Go ahead beat me from a stoplight, I'm just going to the next one.

The pleasure of beating someone 0 to 60 at a red light doesn't outdo the fact that you look like a tool in a tesla. You're driving the car equivalent of a millenial, upset that they aren't making money despite being given government money and people throwing money at them, and complaining about the rules because they don't want to have to follow them.

It'll be exciting when people realize Tesla is a piped ream company and the assets are liquidated. EV may have a brief future while hydrogen fuel cells are perfected, but Tesla is the next DeLorean, just with a lot more people buying in to a company that doesn't make money and is probably about to lose its largest revenue stream (carbon credits).

That 0-60 is pretty ******* amazing. Glad that Tesla keeps pushing the envelope with this car.

What do you have done to your Subaru to trap 125mph?

I see plenty of Tesla's on a daily basis and don't think that people in them look like tools.

DeLorean was a failure that made cars for two years. Tesla has made three separate cars, with multiple submodels over the past decade. The fourth model is sold out with pre-orders. Tesla's vehicle with gull wing doors has been in production longer than DMC as a whole was producing cars. Like DMC, Tesla is getting money from other avenues, but instead of smuggling coke, Tesla is working on battery technology beyond cars. Tesla's stocks are worth 7.5 times as much as GM's, but yeah they are going to go down in a ball of flames any day.
