Gummy ignition lock?
Yes, I still own a car that starts with a key.
Today, I noticed that the key didn't slide easily into the ignition, and it didn't want to come out, either. The key itself actually felt a little sticky. I've never heard of such a thing.
Can I zap it with a little WD40, or am I looking at a new ignition cylinder?
Car is a 1996 Chevy.

They make a lock spray. It contains powered graphite

I have WD40 already, so I gave it a shot. Some tiny bits of black gunk rinsed out. Much better.
I wasn't sure if it would be okay since the ignition key has a chip in it. Then I realized I didn't have anything to lose. It worked.
