350 cubic inch 250 horsepower motor
Yet another technical achievement brought to you by the boneheads in Wash DC..
Still...it may have more power than what's about to come down the pike thanks to the boneheads

HP numbers back in the mid-70's were lowered more from pressure from the insurance companies who began to revolt against the high HP cars of the muscle car era. Low HP numbers would satisfy consumers because of the oil embargo and the high cost of gasoline and occasional lack of gas availability at that time.
But real-world power output was down some but not to what the published numbers indicated. My 78 with the optional L82 motor and 4-speed putting out all of 220HP would easily fry the tires in 1st and 2nd gears and would hit 130 with no real problem.
Automakers would also publish the HP figures at lower RPM numbers so that the "true" HP output was never mentioned in public.

I disagree. Much of it had to do with ever tightening smog requirements starting in 1968 and which really got going in 1971 with the Clean Air Act. That and the national speed limit of 55 both conspired to choke the performance of all engines, not just the V8.

Sure wish I could've bought that when I got out of school back then instead of the Vega GT that I bought. But truthfully back then I thought the vega was pretty cool and by then I was already on my second bike
It's a nice looking car
