My One Day Road Trip Around the Olympic Peninsula
What a beautiful day for a drive. Left home about 8 this morning and went counter-clockwise around the Olympic Peninsula, what I consider to be one of the greatest drives in the world. Well, OK.. in Washington state. Plenty of curves with some really nice long stretches of straight highway with not a car in sight.
All in all, it's a trip of just under 400 miles.
Here are some pics:
Crossing the Hood Canal Bridge....
Between the canal and Hwy 101...
Stopped at Crescent Lake and ate a late breakfast.....
Ate lunch overlooking the ocean from this spot...
The more I drive it, the more I like it...
Life is good.

I've been wanting to do this drive again - I'd even thought about getting a group together for a nice leisurely drive over the same route.
So your route was all driving, no ferries? Looks like an excellent use of a day!

That looked like it was a fun drive with limited traffic. I have yet to do that drive in the C6. I did it in a pickup towing a boat Kind of takes the fun out of it
I made the loop from Olympia to Long Beach on 101 one time in a BMW 528i. That was a relaxing and fun drive, although not a spirited drive at the time.
I recently took a drive into central Oregon to view the Painted Hills and John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Smith Rocks.
Painted Hills:
Smith Rocks:
John Day Fossil Beds:
It was a bit hot (hit 101 in 3 places we stopped), but the air conditioning works very good in the C6
Photos taken with my phone. I have many with my DSLR that I have yet to upload to Photobucket.

No ferries were involved at all. I went down through Tacoma, across the Narrows, up past Bremerton, up to the Hood Canal Bridge and up and around the entire peninsula arriving back in Olympia and then back up I-5 to Tacoma. 361 miles from start to finish.
I wonder what the interest would be for a trip like that...with or without the overnight hotel stay?
Hmmmmm.....

THAT would be a really great trip for our CF-PNW group. To add to that...staying at the Lake Quinalt Lodge overnight would make it a very special trip. Next summer??

A fun trip that Mt Hood Corvettes has done several times is starting at Troutdale and Taking Hwy 84 East and cutting off to the "old" road and then back down. Beautiful views and fun curvy roads. You can see lot of photos on the www.mthoodcorvettes.com website. There is one great one of the curving road that Tim took and Robin put in the 2014 Caravan trip book.

It looks like a day well spent. I'll have to make that drive next summer.
SmileyOR, I'm planning a trip to Fossil, Shaniko, Antelope from Vancouver in the next two or three weeks. I haven't been over there in 25 years. It should be fun.

Cooler temperature would be great since I really like having the windows down to smell the Junipers, etc. I might even pop the top one of the days. (I'm making a two day trip out of it.)
