In the early stages of planning a Caribbean cruise for the beginning of next december.
Some good info in this thread. (Search was my friend)
First time for the 2 of us.
Our desired islands are St. Johns, Grenada, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts-Nevis, and the BVI...so far.
We are planning on flying to Puerto Rico for a few days first, then boarding from there.
Planning on a balcony room for sure, but not sure which deck levels are best. Any input?
Thanks. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. Sorry for piggybacking on this thread. Figured it's not too old, so why start a new one.

Hey Torch, we always tend to stay on Empress Deck, we like several lvls away from the dining rooms, and we stay away from the elevators also. The very best place is full aft, incredible views of the ships wake going out to the horizon. Closer to the middle of the ship less motion is felt, but cept in a small area off Baja everywhere else I've been never felt much any movement at all.
Were hoping to do #9 soon, but we need to paint the house this year so prob not yet!

One thing I do suggest is not to get a room on the deck just below the Lido deck. Not sure if all cruise lines call it that, but it's the uppermost deck on the ship and where most people seem to congregate. It's also the deck that often has the running track and the swimming pool. The thump thump of Nike-clad feet and the moving of deck chairs is not conducive to early morning sleep.
I also second Jet Ninjas' suggestions re the elevators and dining rooms.

We've only been on a couple of rises so am not the definitive source on the subject of picking he best cabin. A balcony without a railing of a door is just a window. Sorry, couldn't resist. I don;t know if the terms balcony and veranda mean the same thing so better check.

These will give you a little idea of a standard Balcony on a Carnival ship, though I don't the entire width. There is alway at least one Chair, one Lounge and a Table. We always get them and really enjoy the time we spend on them, and they are very private on the sides. If you go up to a Suite its larger, as are aft- most cabins on some ships are long and skinny but kinda cool on the ones I've seen. First two are regular Balcony cabin, last two are shots from our Aft balcony (no pics of the balcony itself sadly) looking at the wake...

Well we are all set.
We'll be on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas.
Flying into Puerto Rico. We'll spend 3 days there then jump on the ship for 7 days.
