Default August 11 and 12 Olympic Peninsula Tour

As you should be aware, Joe, who started this tour plan, is unable to go on it. Since those going need to know what is happening, I have some suggestions to make.

As Joe suggested, meet up at the Tacoma Mall JC Penny parking lot southeast corner (same place the very first PNW Corvette meet up took place 10 years ago) to leave no later than 9:30 a.m.

I suggest we have lunch in Sequim at the Highway 101 diner. I have not eaten there but it has good reviews on Tripadvisor. Then we could go on and stop at Lake Crescent and continue on 101 through Forks and on to Kalaloch. Or, we could take Hwy 112 from Port Angeles and go west to Neah Bay, and then back to 101 by Hwy 112 and 113, entering 101 at Sappho, and then go through Forks and Kalaloch.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments, whether they are going or not. PM me, make them on this thread, or call me at 253-841-1126.

As of now, there are 4 who have reserved spots at Kalaloch - me, Aaron, John, and MACE Hardware.

Art, do you still plan to join us in Blynn???

Is anyone else interested in going???

Never been there so I'm just look for the best looking places to take pics. I'm a serious photographer and am looking forward to the trip.

I'll have to find the JC Penny on my GPS, I wasn't up here 10yrs ago!

From I-5 south take the S. 38th St exit. Be in the left hand lane. Go west on 38th and take the 1st left into the Tacoma Mall. Take the first left and follow it around to J C Penney.
Going on Highway 112 should give you some great photos.

Hi, I'm looking forward to this. I have not met any of the group yet. I will need a route sheet in case I fall off the back or something.

We will be looking forward to meeting you. I will have information to pass out at the JC Penney parking lot at the Tacoma Mall.

Are we planning on doing a caravan on day two (Wednesday) as well? Heading to Kalaloch from Tacoma I'd suggest we take 16 up to Port Gamble and then 104 across the Hood Canal bridge and then on to lunch in Sequim at the Highway 101 diner. My wife confirmed that it is quite good.

From Sequim, we could do Highway 112 and 113 then down through Forks to Kalaloch (all on Tuesday). On Wednesday, head back up 101 with the stop at Lake Crescent and then down 101 along the west side of Hood Canal.

Thoughts?

Aaron, your first paragraph is what I would like to do. And also the first sentence of the second paragraph, except Hwy. 112 starts in Port Angeles.
On Wednesday I would like to go into the Hoh River Rain Forest and walk through the Hall of Mosses.
Then go south on 101 and if there is time go to the Carriage Museum in Raymond. It is a very interesting collection. http://nwcarriagemuseum.org/

I just kind of appointed myself to kind of get things organized as Joe had to drop out. I am open to all suggestions and opinions as, unlike the Pope, I am not infallible.

This is getting close to your last chance to join us going around the Olympic Peninsula.
Please arrive at the JC Penney parking lot before 9:30 as it may be empty of Corvettes at 9:31. Also, have a full, or nearly so, tank of gas in the car. This should be a good 2 days. KM

Default My plans for Aug.11 and 12.

I plan on leaving the J C Penney parking lot at 9:30.
We will take the 38th street entrance onto I-5 and immediately exit onto Hwy 16 heading towards the Narrows Bridge.
We will follow 16 to Hwy 3 north.
We will go west on Hwy 104 across the Hood Canal Floating Bridge.
From 104 we will go west on 101 to the Sequim Ave. exit in Sequim, and go north.
At Washington St. we will go left to the Hwy 101 Diner.
We will go back to Hwy 101 and go west.
At Hwy 112 we will go right and follow 112 to its end at Neah Bay.
We will go back on 112 and then take Hwy 113 south to Hwy 101.
We will go south on Hwy 101 to the Kalaloch Lodge.

On Wed. morning I plan on going to the Hoh River Rain Forest. Then I will go south on 101 to Raymond, and see the Northwest Carriage Museum. From there I will go north on 101, then east on 107 back to 12 and 8 to 101 to I-5.

There should be lots of good scenery and picture taking on Hwy 112, 101, the Rain Forest, and the Carriage Museum. The weather is supposed to cooperate with temps around 75 to 80 on the coast.

Keith, Were probably going to go into the park ($20) and drive up to Hurricane Ridge, and then go by Crescent Lake before heading up to Sequim, not ever having been here the wife doesn't want to miss those sites. Hope you don't mind, but should be killer pics from top of Hurricane ridge!

Hmmmm. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to drop the Discover Pass in the glovebox.

You pass thru Sequim before you get to the Hurricane Ridge road out of Port Angles. Allow 30 - 45 minutes (or more) to get to the top from PA. Although it's only about 25 miles it can be slow at times, and then there are pullouts for foto ops. Time at the top is your option, but it's a nice break to get out of the car and there are nice trails to explore.

We will be at Sequim for lunch about 30 miles before we get to Lake Crescent and about 10 miles before the turnoff to Hurricane Ridge. A good clear day will give you some nice pictures at Hurricane Ridge with a little hiking involved. There should also be some great photos from Hwy 112 along the coast. Going up to Hurricane Ridge and taking some trails for photos, going to Lake Crescent and then driving along Hwy 112 to Neah Bay will make for a very long day for you.

I will have my Golden Eagle pass for old codgers to get in National Parks for free. It saves a lot of money. Unfortunately it does nothing at state parks.

Huh, what? Geezers? I thought we were going to be filming Fast and Furious 10 - Outrunning Tribal Police...

Kidding

Hoping to pass through, leaving no trace (or bail).
