They lost three firefighters near Twisp today and officials urged people in Twisp, Winthrop and Conconully to evacuate. They say 4000 homes in the region have been evacuated thus far.

The smoke over here on the east side has quarantined my Vette. The ash and dust falling from the sky, and the colors of the sky are almost apocalyptic. Worst year I've seen in 35 years living here.

We're rocking and rolling over here. Got kicked out of the house Thursday mid afternoon. Moved down valley 7 miles & camped at a friends place who does vehicle restoration. This morning when the evacuation level dropped from 3 down to 2 we moved back home.

Wind blew all afternoon around 35 mph.
Power was cut off east of us due to another fire west of Okanagan that threatened our main & only feeder to the Methow Valley.. Last summer it was out for 9 days.
Anyone ever notice that DC-10's loaded with retardent fly like there should be a marionette controlling the strings holding the jet air borne as it sets up for another drop.
But like last summer we are growing tired of the daily air shows. Toss in the loss of life and severe injuries this past Thurs. about 5 miles from my house in Twisp and it really sucks. We listened to this tragedy unfold on the scanner and most likely it should not have happened but I won't go into that on this forum.
Lastly I want to give thanks to the Honda Power Eqipment division for my fantastic generators..
They keep things powered up around here during the bumps in the road.

Glad you folks are safe. I had a feeling you had left town. I guess Winthrop is still standing and hope the fires are down to where our visit doesn't have to be cancelled.

Glad your safe George and not without a home. I've been searching for news articles trying to keep up with the situation in the Twisp / Winthrop area. Unfortunately I'm at work in Alaska and have limited access to local fire information.
I should be home next week and looking forward to the get together at Winthrop. Assuming the air quality isn't to bad (wife has asthma) I still plan to be there.

Very windy here yesterday. Here in Twisp dust in the air was the issue and not smoke for a change. Burned over areas couldn't hold the soil.
Today is starting out very nice, calm with clear sky's and good breathable air.
Today we're making 15 dozen chocolate chip cookies to take down to our nearby Fire Hall for them to pass out to crews passing through our local district station.

Sounds like they're making progress around Twisp. God bless; I pray your towns get missed. Some rain in the weekend forecast.
When all else fails, throw your guns and guitars in the Vette and head out!
(And don't forget the wife!)

Our club's Fall Tour includes Winthrop. Hopefully it will still be there (as we want to leave some money behind to help the local economy!)
