Input on Building Slot Car Track
#21
I built this setup at our house in Ohio about 15 years ago. It started out with 1 scalextric set on a ping pong table. Then I bought another set and then some more track and added on plywood to the ends of the table. This way I could reposition the plywood pieces to change the track layout. That way I didn't have to commit to just one layout. I also ended up with way too many cars but there are so many great models I couldn't stop.

Nice setup and an awesome collection of cars! Good idea on being able to change the layout without too much difficulty.

I would have to spend hours finding and then scanning the photo's. Sounds like something to do in 3 year or so when I retire. I do have hundreds of shots and quite a few slides also.

Walter, just google Carrera Slot Cars....it'll tell you all you need to know. Warning, they can be very addicting...why I stay away from them!

If you have an old project car sitting around that you haven't got to yet you could do this!

Might be a little more involved than you want. There is a slot car place in Edgewood that I haven't been to but it looks pretty cool.

Looks like they have some nice tracks.

Yes, John makes a good suggestion. Google slot cars on Ebay. A company FLY maes some decent reproductions of some classic race cars, which are nice collectibles.
Above all, do not purchase any scale Hay Trucks.

"Our Fred" at his best. I think Aaron and Fred probably live 25-30 miles apart, but in my experience distance was never an obstacle to Fred if anyone needed him.

Not trying to steal your thread, but since we're talking about real toys, just thought I'd share my little project I've been working on for the last few years....it's N scale model railroading....something I've enjoyed for many years.
Let me know if I can help you with building your layout.
When it was still under construction....laying the cork roadbed...
Track work complete....time for rolling stock....
My dad and me in 1964 with the layout he built for me. Guess I've loved model trains for a looooong time.
Found another few pics of my layout...more current than the ones above...

Now that is a sweet setup, Joe! Mine (at least to start) won't be anywhere near that but we all gotta start somewhere. If it gets used a lot, then I can look at building something more permanent.

Do they still make Skippy Peanut Butter?

I believe so but although as a kid I was a consumer, one day a guy came down the street placing plastic bags on door ***** containing small samples of Jif peanut butter. I began following him about a block behind removing them and have been a paying Jif customer to this day. Jif and Ritz crackers equals gourmet dining.

The most popular, widely sold scales these days are in order of size, O scale (Lionel-sized), HO, literally Half-O scale, N scale, the scale I'm modeling, and then Z scale, the smallest of all. Really small and really expensive.
I'm holding an O scale Lionel Santa Fe locomotive in my hand in that photo of my dad and me.
