Wake/Gathering in Kent - In Memoriam Fred Perra

I purchased the plywood (CDX), two sheets of 10'x4' now have to build the frame this week. My wife didn't like my plans for building the frame (big surprise). She said it'd be too heavy with 2x4 around the perimeter and with three cross supports... We'll hopefully make progress on it tomorrow. I want to get it finished by Thursday so I can have time for a "test & tune" on Friday (translation, I need to figure out how everything works once assembled).
Just how thick is the plywood you bought? I suspect if it's 1/2" or less it's going to be difficult to keep the track level without support underlying support. I think Jen's right about the weight of a perimeter of 2 x 4's but I guess it depends on what means you expect to apply to crank it up into the rafters, or wherever. There's always the option of just setting the track up on the floor, depending on how clean the floor is and how the competitors will be located around the track. Kneeling, sitting, standing...
Otherwise maybe a few purpose-made sawhorses might work to support the plywood. Hell, Poodle girl probably has enough empty Scotch bottles to support it all. Still, that makes it close to the floor.
Is the track going to be two-lane or four? Will there be a handicap system to allow some of the older people to compete with the "Young Lions"?
Have you reviewed your guest list lately? I saw at least two names of people who don't get along with some of the others. There's another who I believe will likely have to get permission from the Parole Board in order to attend. Oh, maybe she'll take orders for personalized license plates.
Are Joe and "Julie" going to be there for sure?

The track itself is just under 10' by 6 1/2' so the base will be 10'x8'. I've got two sawhorses plus four jack stands to elevate the track off the ground. I just need to give it enough stability so it won't sag, at least for our upcoming gathering. The plywood is 1/2" CDX so it's fairly rigid but not too heavy.
It's a two-lane track and no, no handicaps. We just won't let the younger people play until we're done (or have broken all the cars by having them fly off the track).

PMs with my address were just sent to everyone who responded affirmatively so let me know if you're planning on attending but didn't receive the PM and need my address/directions.
See everyone on Saturday.

Sounds like we're having some really good food. Remind me and Pat to bring our dentures.

Aaron,
I have not been on the forum for quite a while and was stunned to read of Fred's passing.
I am unable to make Saturday's event, so please raise a toast to Fred for me. He was a super guy and I always was happy to see him and is RRRRed Z06
Thanks,
Steve Y

I can't help but wonder if he's trained those dobies to retrieve cars than fall off the track? Better buy some doggie treats if you ever hope to get your entry back.
I presume your entry will be something German, but not a Panzer. That wouldn't be fair. But then...

I'm sure no one will have an issue if you wear a tie or not. But, by god if you try to apply Polident to my lane on Aaron's new slot car track, you're in really big trouble.

So sorry Aaron, planned on attending but I totaled my car last night at the track and spend all day/night at Harbor View. Have 2 lower Vertebrae and my sternum fractured.....wearing armor to keep the spine straight for 6 weeks. Well eventually part out the Vette and get another.....Hope everyone has a great time!

My thoughts are with you and hope you make a full recovery! I went to The Ridge a week ago last Friday and just read your post to my wife (mistake...) and she said I better be taking it real easy at the track.
Godspeed on your recovery.

Glad you will pull through but always a shame to wad up a nice car like yours. Remember there are bad accidents in all classes and not just the beginner/novice ranks. I have seen crashes in the advanced groups with some fellow drivers I never would have expected to see. Just one small slip at 9/10 ths can ruin your day.
Hope you and your next ride are up and running soon.
