How much clear is required to put 4 coats of clear over the base coat?

My painter purchased 2 gallons of clear for me and told me that 4 coats of clear requires 1 1/2 gallons of clear coat for my coupe.

Am I being SCAMED here? I thought that less than 2 quarts of clear would be enough for 4 coats of clear.

I paid for all the materials ordered by my painter (best most expensive paint, clear, primers, etc..) and now there is no more clear left to fix a problem on the car.

2 gals of any unreduced clear is excessive. How much it will take to do your car depends on several factors.

The ratio of Clear to hardner/reducer and the VOC of the clear out of the can varies greatly between manufactures. Euro: HS 2-1 both thick products, Fleet: 4-1-2 thinner products. Ie. you have to spray more of a thinner product to get the same film build on your car as a HS ( thicker ) product. With 2 gals of Spies I could spray 3-4 vettes.

I used Dupont ChromaPremier 72200S Premium Productive Clear, Dupont ChromaPreimer activator 12305S, and ChromaPremier reducer 12385S.

I believe I was hosed. The clear was $233.00 a gallon.

Damn! I've cleared a 45 foot tour bus with not much more.
You had 12 qts of rts clear if your car isn't 37 feet long you should have had extra.
