Door jam (metal) prep before paint
On the metal part of the jam- can I scuff or do I need to strip off all the old paint?

I strip all the paint off....epoxy prime it because I have the door hinges off...then apply new sealer .... Do all my prep to the post making sure all is good.....prime the hinge post area....sand it and get it ready for paint.....then re-install the hinges that have been stripped and epoxied...along with the shims.
I can spend a day plus just in the hinge post areas to get them the way I wan them. I am VERY PICKY about the jambs. Usually an area that is overlooked...and shows when you open the door and can look at them. Those who knows what to look for will notice...the average person would not know the difference.

Hopefully that is just adhesive still on the door... How did you remove the sticker? As others have said, if done properly, goo-gone type products would not damage clear coat in any way. If that is not adhesive then it looks like you used something pretty abrasive and messed up your clear coat. Depending on how deep the damage is will determine if it can be sanded out or if the door would need to be repainted...
