Default Painting stainless steel screws

Hi

I just received from Mid America a Velocity Red license plate frame for$79
and it came with 2 stainless screws. When l ordered it for my C5 it had colored screw caps and for only $49.

What is the best way to paint the screw heads? I have the lacquer paint.

Thanks

Alan

Usually when I need to paint the heads of stainless steel or chrome screws....ASSUMING that they are Phillips headed or Torx headed I first etch them in my blast cabinet to give the etch primer something to stick to. Apply the etch primer...which is a light grey or black depending on the color that I am painting them. Lightly coat the screw head with my paint and when dry install them and then go back in with a touch up artist brush and get them painted right. IF the screws are hex headed where socket is used...you have to be careful to not apply too much paint because the socket can damage it.

Default Painting Stainless screws

I just painted a SS screw with lacquer touch up, when it is dry l will put on a clear coat. I cleaned it with Dawn and so far it looks good.

It will not see any rain and it is in the rear.

It will last for a while ...but it will fail in time. Being such a small item...you can just keep touching ti up. Personally... I would not worry about the clear. Painting on stainless steel ...especially with a lacquer by itself with no type of adhesion or etch primer to help it stick.

Using a wire wheel on a Dremel is not the same as etching it in a blast cabinet with a media...such as 80 grit aluminum oxide.

Wish you the best...it should be fine for a while.
