primer/ top coat question
I primed a bunch of suspension parts with eastwood 2k epoxy primer last thuresday 10/16/14, got stuff hanging all over the shop. I want to top coat with eastwood chassis black, can I still top coat with out having to scuff it, today is 10/21/14? Thanks Chip

This is cut and pasted directly from Eastwood's product data sheet:
"Epoxy primer may be topcoated after approximately 30 minutes (wait 45-60 minutes after applying more than two coats), or up to about five days. After five days, primer MUST be scuff sanded prior to topcoat application".
Since this is day 5 and the PDS states "about 5 days", I'd error on the side of caution and scuff sand before top coating. If you go to their site and read the tech info on your product, it tells you what they recommend sanding with. But be ready to spray the day you're going to sand. You don't want that stuff sitting and sealing up on you again before top coating.

ALWAYS better to be safe...than sorry.
Also..I know this is getting picky...but these times are given at ambient air temperature...which is 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit. So...technically...if these parts were in an environment that was below ambient air temperature...the time would extend out some.....just like if it were 90 degrees Fahrenheit...the '5 day window'...would OBVIOUSLY close up some also.
Scuff them if you have any doubt....or do you like the thought of doing this again????
NOT PREACHING...but in the future make sure you are ready to top coat as soon as it will allow you to do so....because that is when you will get maximum chemical adhesion. Right now you are now somewhat dealing with a mechanical bond..so make sure you get the parts scuffed very well.
Best of luck and hope it all turns out as you planned.

I would feel that if you get it dull and scuffed well...you should not have a problem. I can not confirm if re-applying the epoxy again is of any benefit.
When I have areas of a car that I apply the PPG epoxy I use...and I let it dry for a long while...I make sure that it is scuffed and completely dull before I apply any sealer, paint or whatever.

That is good enough for me, it's a judgement call, I've read alot of your posts, and I think you are the "MAN"! I will scuff thoroughly and paint, It is what it is and I will never get myself in this spot again. Thanks for all the help. Chip
