Default GM hot cam hp/performance increases?

Is there any information out there on the GM LS1 hot cam with an other wise stock engine? What I'm looing for is drivability, hp and 1/4 mile gains for a M6 with just a Blackwing and cold air kit.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Check on LS1Tech.com in the LS1 internal section. There is a bunch of information there. You can also listen to an audio clip of the hotcam on ls1sounds.com.

As mentioned above you will find alot of info on the hot cam over on LS1tech.com. If I were you I would install LT headers before installing a cam. You won't gain the full amount of extra power from a bigger cam without headers. IMO there are alot cams out there that have as good or better street manners than the hot cam that will also give you quite a bit more power. An example would be the tried and true TR224.

Thunder Racing 224/224 cam is what he meant. You need to decide what your goals are. Good street manners, emissions, etc. I wanted to get more increase across the board and have been looking at the TR 224, the Old Man Cam (also Thunder Racing), the Stealth II from MTI and the LPE GT2-3. But my goals may be different than yours.

I agree especially the t&t tr224. This does'nt happen often but I put kooks lts. on and only drop e.t.s by one tenth tuned. Installed cam in sig. and dropped 3 tenths.fwiw.

Chevy High Performance Issue September 2004 Has A Dyno Test Of The Ls1 With The Hot Cam And Ls6 Intake Then With Gmpp Ls6 Heads. Pretty Impressive If True, 510 Hp At The Fly Wheel.

Darn, can't buy that issue. Did they give the numbers with just the cam & intake?

No they dont say what the cam/intake numbers are but they do show a dyno graph. From what it looks like, Horse power at 6500rpm is close to 470 and peak torque at 4500rpm is 450.

Well after some searching I found that I could/can buy this back issue for $9. Should be here in 5-7 business days. My point is:GM has great minds working for them at their Tech Center. That's about 15 miles from my home. These guys play around on the Dyno for days on end. If they came out with a HOT CAM you can bet that it's the result of weeks of Dyno tests. Also that it's not a DUD so lets see just what the Generals brain trust have come up with

WOW, that was fast. Primida sent me the Sept. 2004 back issue already.

Stock LS1, 420 hp @ 5900 rpm w/ Hooker LT headers.

Here's the scoop: GM LS1 Hot Cam, 219/228, lift .525 / .525, LSA 112

50 hp gain over stock LS1 cam @ 6400 rpm, 450 lb. torque @ 4800 rpm

Thats flywheel readings with Hooker LT headers thru mufflers, stock heads.

Cam kit includes, springs & spring shims.

Add the new LS6 GM cnc ported heads & the number goes to..510 hp @ 6500, torque goes to 469 @ 5100 rpm.

WOW .................... ...................... 90 hp from heads & cam!

I had the hotcam in my ’98 SS Camaro back when it had intake and exhaust. Before number was 306-rwhp and after was 337-rwhp (that also includes the gains from an ASP pulley swap). This cam sounds incredible, but it was not very emission friendly. Also, when under 1,000 rpm the car had literally no power. Above 1,000 rpm was fine, but if anyone but me tried to drive the car, they would stall it continuously.
I liked the cam at the time, but now that the 918 breaking spring issues have been worked out, I feel there are more powerful and emission friendly cams available.
