Default New 402/L92 Numbers

I got my new home built 402/L92 combo tuned at Cartek yesterday. I'm only running 10.8 SCR (you never know where gas is going these days!).

I ended up with 460/421. It runs great and it feels like a rocket. I can cruise at 1500 rpm in 6th and just open the throttle up and it goes. I can't post pictures, so if anyone at Cartek see's this feel free to post the graph.

The L92 heads were an experiment. The cam selection is not the best, but it was a guess last November from someone else (not a Cartek recommended cam, although Julio said that he could help me with a new cam design).

Julio was great, as well as everyone else at Cartek!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Guys!!!!

I think a new cam from Cartek or Cartek heads/cam will be next. I still want a honest 500 rwhp so I just need to save my lunch money.

Alex,

I'll have to follow Ellis to e-town or Atco soon.

Bob, time to admit the cam didn't work but was a noble experiment.

Let me know if I can help.

Here's my very similar build with a 234-240 112 +0 XE-R cam. The car truly drives like stock.

This from Side Step on the other forum:

"I just road in this car...

Of all the rides I have been in this is absolutely the most mechanically quiet. I simply don't understand it, 13 degrees overlap and the steering wheel was not shaking at all at idle. You hear the car from the exhaust, not from under the hood...

Throttle response was brutal and rolling through 3rd gear flat puts your *** in the seat.

I was one of the original skeptics from earlier posts and I am not afraid to admit I am now eating crow about this.

Absolutely the most civilized 500rwhp I have ever experienced... Props to all those involved

Default 402/L92 cam specs

TM-96CE,

The cam specs are:

235/248 .646/.615 114LSA +2 advance
Comp Cams LSK/XE-R lobes
2129R/3734R HR114LSA +2 advance (112 installed intake center @.050)

Kevin,

I think your right! The new cam will be much more in line with yours. I'm going to mill the heads 20 thousands at the same time.

Bob,

I'm running 11.3:1. I wouldn't push past that. You'll end up not being able to run enough advance. My car was tuned up to 30 degrees but didn't make any more power than 29 degrees so we backed it back down to 29. At 12:1 with my first cam - big split, 19 degrees overlap - we couldn't run more than 24 degrees. I would have liked trying race gas with the first cam just to see if it made a difference in timing lead we could run and HP but I can't drive around on race gas.

Awesome! I'm glad you like it! It is easily the best clutch I have ever driven/raced. CARTEK really did their homework with this clutch and it came out as an A+.

Just break that bad boy in, and let 'er rip at the track! No fear with power shifting what so ever!

When they put it in to test out on my car, after the first night at the track, I knew this was the LSx clutch to end all LSx clutches! It kicks ***!

See you at the track!

Hp is decent but torque is down from normal, it seems. I would think the cam and compression would be less of a factor than that.

see5,

Your car is 238-242, mine is 235-248. That's a big difference. My lift is .646/615.

I'm not real happy with the results. I've been talking to Julio @ Cartek and he has some ideas. I'm also going to pull the heads and mill them down another 15 thousands making my compression 11.3. That and a new cam like yours and Kevins should make a difference. I don't think the big split worked as planned.

Bob,
I would call Bryan Pitcher [bpitcher@compcams.com] and explain your situation. He is the LS guru down there and I have used him on all kinds of builds. He will spend lots of time and give you a recommendation with the specs and lobe # and then you can buy the cam from the Comp dealer of you choice. He speced the cam in my 402 and just speced a cam for a LS7 blocked, Wegner ported 92 headed conversion I just did. That is the sweetest cam in that car and it really feels strong compared to other more radical cams I have used. It has a bit of a split but feels really mild.
228/236/613-608/112. with some new trick lobes. Dyno in about a week.

I am building a 441 now for my car and am going back to Bryan based on my positive experiences with his designs.

The intake duration seems small. Swap out the cams like you are planning and get some new numbers- I'd expect a 402/L92 to be right around 500RWHP. Hopefully this pesky cam swap will remedy the situation and garner much better performance

Default New Cam Coming

Thanks to the Guys at Cartek, I've got a new cam coming!!!

I left the specs in their capable hands. It's smaller than the last cam but not too small. The wife did not like the rough idle the car currently has. I think the new cam will make her happy, and when Momma's happy everyone is happy!!

Default Picked up the new cam from Cartek today!

I stopped by Cartek this morning and picked up my new cam. Thanks Dave!!

It's 235/239 .597/.604. I have a Vette show this weekend or I'd have it in by tommorow afternoon.

I think that I'm gonna by a happy camper after the tune.

Bob K.
