Well got to get rid of that cabin fever at cecil county dragway today. Took the bone stock C6Z down with 4+year old 275/40/17 mickey thompson drag radials that were bald. The weather was really great with a slight cross wind. The track wasn't hooking the greatest and learning this car is gotta be one of the most difficult launching cars i've met besides a Supra TT. I made my first pass shortly after driving 1.5hours to get there was 11.52. Let the car cool down a little went back up and ran alot better doing 11.35. I was really happy after that run. Just dissappointed at the 60fts being in the mid 1.8's. So I pull back around for another run looking for better and the whole day got the F'ME mod. I was told slow it down or i'll be asked to park or leave. So that means 11.5's or slower. So I parked and bitched to myself for a while. I came back up and did some launching and 1-2shifts but I could not figure out the launch. I tried higher and the 60ft got worse. I kept wheel hopping and spinning. Then I finally made the big mistake and tried launching how i felt the car should be launched. Rolled into the gas really hard with a fast release of the clutch and the RPM's climbed and the clutch said "NOPE not gone do it". So I let the car cool down a hour and tried to run the car and had another horrible 1.90 60ft and missed 3rd. My friend with a 98 Trans Am with cam/fast intake/9in rear/full exhaust, 2step, 150shot w/nano/28in ET streets/skinnies etc etc wanted to run me heads up. So i had to get the game face on and make a cannonball run I was rewarded with the win over his car and my new best with only my 5th full pass in the car. He ran 10.91 at 129mph to my 11.09 at 126.73. I cut a better light of .243 to his .515 which was enough to keep me ahead to the end

The car has alot more in it with better driving. My shifts were ok not great. Especially my 2-3-4's IMO. The launch needs to be upper 1.6x's and the MPH to be around 127.5+. I learned alot today with the car. The car must be cooler to run the better ET/MPH's. Similar to the C5's in that 180deg's before launching is definitely good. I made a pass at 220* and that thing was worthless!!! I think if i could get the car around 170* at launch time on another great weather/DA day like today I think i can easily hit my goal of 10.999999 at 127mph. Just need that great launch.
Speaking of launching wow is this thing picky! Just a little to much gas and zoom clutch goes up in smoke. To light and she bogs, to slow of a release rolling into the gas gives you 1.8's-1.9's. I tried going up to 4000rpm and the car spun and hopped. Dropped to 3000-3200rpm (knowing this after reading up on rangers runs) and the damn thing did its new best. If you had a clutch that could take it this thing could FLY!
I'll get the video from my friend and post a pic of the slip and car with the # on it very soon Thanks for watching everyone... look for faster times to come hopefully soon.... at another track

way to go bruce youll need a t&t or a rollcage to get the most from your car (mango tango) when you get a decent clutch 10's are a lock if not sooner youll sqeak out a 10 on existing with some good rubber. comparing my time slips to yours at 1/8 ive gone 99.81 mph 6.84 sec. you bb guys sure come on strong once you get rolling. hope the stroking of engine on my new setup gives a couple more mph in the second half. would be nice if i can get 130mph

Congrats Bruce!
Sounds like we were feeling about the same, really wish i could have spent the whole day making runs. Great job those C6Zs sound awful tricky to launch.

Nice runs
I was debating which route to go with as far as modding my 03 Z06 (basically stock now).. After reading how fast the C6Z's are stock and with minor mods, I've decided to leave mine alone and just get a C6 when prices fall a bit. It's frustrating that a blown C5Z is basically on par with a lightly modded C6Z. Ah well, I digress..
Keep us posted on the next runs

Good job Bruce, while most of us know that a stock + DRs C6 Z06 is certainly capable of doing that it still takes serious skill to make it happen as only a handful of people have actually done it.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. I really look forward to cracking the elusive 10.9999999 pass for everyone before i do one mod to the car. Its really gonna come down to figuring out that launch. Gary2004Z06 popped a damn 10.9x out of his car bone stock DR's. I have to follow in my idols footsteps before I start cleaning up the garage for clemsondave and put the ccw drag pack on, full exhaust, cold air intake, light weight rotors, c5z rear brakes, tune, shifter and go after the #2 spot on the bolt on list. No way in hell i can touch the Unicorn bolt on C6Z Gary. However i'm worried this last .10 is gonna be tough as i'm told. Though i was suprised how quickly i got to where i'm at now.

And don't forget Jamie's and Ranger's 10.85 and more recently, Ranger's 10.74, all with drag radials as the only mod.

Well we like to say there is getting the boot or the MikeP boot. The boot means dont run below 11.49 again without the proper safety equipment. Then theres the MikeP boot where you can't run again till your car is checked over to see if she's legal to run the times. Basically you're a spectator at best then
Typically it goes in this fashion. Run good ET with lots of room for improvement with practice. You get warned hey slow it down or they'll have you park it or ask you to leave. So you may run some 1/8 or 1000fts and rail the brakes and be sure to stay out of that ET limit till you either go home or make a last ditch effort for a bonzai run at the end as we usually do. Then they either tell you at the timeslip tower you're done park it or leave. You come again they either tell you right away when you get there run below the # you're out of here permanently. Sometimes you get through and run a couple and run to fast then they remember you and just tell you to park it you're done aswell. Either way it ends up in you can't run your car to its full potential.

Congrats Bruce! Nice way to open the season. It will most likely take a high 1.6x to low 1.7x to hit your 10. Keep practicing the launch since that is one of the most important factors with these cars and its clutch. MIR and its prep would have given you little extra. Time for a roadtrip.
