Anyway, it's a new car! Agressive where it was lazy. Improved throttle response. It actually stands up and marches on a 3-2 downshift on the freeway! I mean it goes. Shoot, it's almost fast now.
Good news.

Final Update

Well, went to the track to test the new MAF fix.
Happy to say it worked!

I got 2 runs.
mid 60's temp wise.

2.03 60ft
8.46 330ft @ 86.3 mph
1/4 Mile 13.05 @ 106.8

The first run was a 13.07 @ 106.3

So that's 1.2 seconds quicker and 9mph faster.
$50 pretty well spent.

I even beat a new Hemi Challenger......

Thanks for the advice guys!

Never thought I'd be so tickled at a 13.0 second ET. But the car is where it should be, and that is now my baseline.

Awesome improvements, that's more like it.

And just a quick reference to my post back on September 10th about what I'd thought the car should be running:

With a Vararam, X-pipe and the lighter/freer flowing Borla Stingers it should run in the 13.1-13.4 second range at 107+mph, maybe even quicker.

I remember. You were right on!
I drove around the water, so didn't even do a burnout.
A 12.99 would have been cool!

Holy CRAP Ron that is a hell of a jump!! 13.00 out of a stock 00 auto is phenominal!! A converter and 150 shot away from 10.90s....

OR.... converter/heads/cam/intake away from 11.50s...

You're about to start having a blast now!

Explain?
I haven't noted that parts for these cars are any more expensive than the big block Nova I have. Especially since a lot of parts are available right here either slightly used or new just never used.

Already have a Yank SS3600, 3.42 Diff (I'll upgrade myself) and used long tube headers. Cams are standard fare and heads seem to be cheaper than rat motor stuff.

I realize the 4L60 could be a weak point. I'd like to do that myself as well.

Hey Alan, get the trans fixed yet?

Nope, not yet.... its at a shop, getting an order for tranny parts sent in tomorrow. Probably take 2 wks to get it all done or so.

I agree its not that expensive to do what you want to do.... The converter/gears alone will have you running 12.50s if not .40s.... Find a deal on some used heads/cam(Say $1000-1200), freshen the heads up and slap em on with the used LTs you bought....Since you have HP Tuners already you can give yourself a crash course in tuning.... If that thing makes 420-430rwhp thats enough for 11.70s...

Really LSx cars(autos anyway) are pretty damn cheap to get into the 11s. After that it gets $$...unless you spray it.... which I would...

BTW TSP has some great deals on their CNC ported head/cam packages..... You will be suprised how cheap you can get that stuff for..... If it was me and i was sticking to a budget, I would get their 5.3l 2.5 heads (for more compression) and a 224/228 ish cam......Plenty to get you in the 11s. if you don't have an LS6 intake on that car, you will need to hustle up a used one of those as well....

FWIW i ran the TSP MS3 cam in a trans am....It made good peak HP but the bottom end power SUCKED....this was an M6 car so it was a lot more noticeable but....knowing what I know now, stick with something smaller, especially with only a 3600 converter..... less = more.

Thanks Alan. Tha's about the cam specs I have been looking into. I have to remember this isn't a big block! I haven't played with small block stuff for eons.
Also looking at Advanced Induction offerings as well. Seems there are a lot of choices for CNC ported heads out there.
Haven't scored the LS6 intake yet.
Spray it huh, hmmm, I do have a few nitrous bottles laying around.
If I don't sell the Nova, I'll always have to fall back on for a ten or nine second fix. As you know, there is nothing like that torque.
